The only way I know of in properly replacing the timing cover on any small block (6 or 8) is dropping the pan at least 1/2" to allow the timing cover front pan gasket to get compressed once the pan is re-tightened.

Letty....all men are pigs.
Some are house-trained...many aren't.

I have a new employee. He's definitely a pig. SO close to letting him go but he's skilled and is so very hopeful to keep his job....so I'll keep him on (for now). But he's SO not house-trained it's difficult.

We had 4 sons. No girls.
I just wanted one girl so kept trying and trying.....finally gave up.
I always tell everyone the reason for 4 sons was for emotional protection against attrition.

I leave my alternator off, do the adjustment, then re-install everything.
It only takes about 5 minutes to adjust each side.

Hi Robert,

With that issue the first thing I would look at are my plug wires.

Second thing would be plugs.

Third would be fuel delivery (fuel pump, fuel filter, injectors).

Start with those items, assuming you're not getting any codes, of course.

Luck,
Rod

Hi Woody,

You have center-bolt valve covers......which means you'd need to cut around the holes in order to access the rocker nuts yet still have enough meat to bolt down the covers?

I've never heard of this being done, and I suspect it won't actually work because the metal would not sustain enough hold-down pressure to seal the gasket.

What I do is warm up the motor, take one cover off, adjust, then replace cover. Repeat on other side. Then I let cool down and simple green and hose down each side.

I posted over 'there' even less than I do hear (I like reading).

At CF I read alot of what Andy had written over the years and I appreciated his C4 knowledge greatly. So when I (with great interest) followed a thread with Andy 'at odds' with the admins I concluded his reasoning to be accurate and the admins to be ignorant.

So I simply typed and posted this: I agree with Bogus.

Two hours later I was lifetime banned from CF.

Coming out ahead is just like ripping off the insurance company. If I were Andy, I would return any overages.

Few years back I got rear-ended, totaled. A work van I had bought for $3,000 just two weeks before.

Insurance company paid me $5,850.00. I TOLD them it was too much! That I had just paid 3 g's for it. (Agreed, good deal and all, but STILL!) They said "didn't matter".....that the payout was $5,850.00. I took their check and cashed it.

THEN...two weeks later they called me asking about personal injury, which I said clearly "There was none." Happily they stated that if I'd sign a "release" to that, they'd "settle" with a $2,500.00......"settlement amount".

When I picked up the check I spoke to my adjuster and sort of 'complained' that they were maybe too 'quick and loose' with handing out money....,she told me the only recourse was to not cash the check!

I cashed it of course.

In 1986, Peter Davies was on holiday in Kenya after graduating from Louisiana State University .

On a hike through the bush, he came across a young bull elephant standing with one leg raised in the air. The elephant seemed distressed, so Peter approached it very carefully. He got down on one knee, inspected the elephants foot, and found a large piece of wood deeply embedded in it. As carefully and as gently as he could, Peter worked the wood out with his knife, after which the elephant gingerly put down its foot.

The elephant turned to face the man and with a rather curious look on its face, stared at him for several tense moments. Peter stood frozen, thinking of nothing else but being trampled. Eventually the elephant trumpeted loudly, turned and walked away. Peter never forgot that elephant or the events of that day.

Twenty years later, Peter was walking through the Chicago Zoo with his teenaged son. As they approached the elephant enclosure, one of the creatures turned and walked over to near where Peter and his son Cameron were standing. The large bull elephant stared at Peter, lifted its front foot off the ground, then put it down. The elephant did that several times then trumpeted loudly, all the while staring at the man.

Remembering the encounter in 1986, Peter could not help wondering if this was the same elephant. Peter summoned up his courage, climbed over the railing and made his way into the enclosure. He walked right up to the elephant and stared back in wonder. The elephant trumpeted again, wrapped its trunk around one of Peter legs and slammed him against the railing, killing him instantly.

Probably wasn't the same fucking elephant.

Naaa. These 'off topic' threads usually morph into interesting discussions. Actually fun to watch.

Since All time I'd say Driver Restraint (belts and bars).

In the past 50 years (1963) I'd say aerodynamics.
