djxib Question on "Road Force" test for Nitto NT01 tires

I had 2 NT-01's mounted today (315/35ZR17 on ZR-1 whees) and the tire machine reported a "Road Force" failure for both tires. The specific message is "Forcematching will not bring assembly within limit". One has a Road Force of 30lbs, the other 20lbs.

Three questions for the racers out there:

1. Are the tires bad and should I complain to discount tire direct
2. Are the numbers within tolerance based on real world experience
3. Is there something else the installer can do to miminize the Road Force calculation?

Thanks!

I have never done a road force balance, so I don't know.

I would call Discount Tire (and why didn't you buy them through Tire Rack here??? ) and query them... see what they say.

DTD said:

First of all, not all manufacturers recognize the road force test, but DTD does.

They said that less than 25 for a tire is OK, more than 25 is excessive. So they are shipping me one new tire and a return label for the defective tire.

Interesting. I've never done a road force balance, either. Personally, I wouldn't have worried about it as long as it balanced to zero and was not visibly defective. Half the time I run used tires off the internet, there are no warranties on those

However, a free replacement is certainly a good thing, glad to see companies standing by their products.
