Good Morning Gurus!

FRIDAY!

I spent some time moonlighting at the place where I might work if I change jobs. Things went well. Hopefully I will know on Monday.

Basically it is a reality TV show that is looking for folks to compete for an Indy car sponsorship. I would be able to walk from my edit bay into a large garage area with about a dozen Indy cars that the contestants will race. Pretty cool stuff for a guy that loves video production and cars. Talk about combining passions!

I'm pretty excited. I'll keep ya'll posted. Hopefully I can use whatever connections I have to do cool things for my Corvette family. Not sure what that would be, but I love to help folks out when I can. If the show is picked up, then you can watch it, and when the credits scream past, you can say "Hey, I know one of those guys!" I am sure it will be a big thrill for you!

Today will be nearly 60 in Pueblo Colorado. Nice and warm. I really wanted to drive the Vette today, but the garage door opener is in need of a large plastic gear, that for some reason costs $60. WTF?

So I may extract the gear and see if I can find a better option. $60 won't break the bank, but it's the principle of the thing. It's a plastic gear for heck's sake!

How's things in your world folks?

you can release the door opener and yank it up by hand... at least that'll free the vette!

What? No snow? We are scheduled for rain... lots of it over the next 3 days. We do need it tho... and lots of snow in the Sierra's, too. Much needed!!!!

I do love it, tho... They report LA and SoCal to be in a drought... WHO CARES! It's a DESERT!!!!!! Screw that... Now, if NorCal and the mountains are dry, WE CARE! That's where our water comes from... good snows... good run off... full reservours...

Yeah, I know about the manual release. Just a pain in the ass to deal with. Pulling the car out, then walking back through the house and stuff. I'm feeling especially lazy today....

We're still buried under snow here in the midwest. Initially temps were supposed to reach 50* over the weekend, which meant 16 hours of Corvette work, but now it's early next week before the thaw. Guess I'll drink beer instead.

How complex is the gear? Id wager a number of us could get one machined for nuttin if it's nothing too ridiculous. Post a pic. We could make one out of steel...although that would chew up the other plastic gears.

Once I get it out of the opener, I'll post it up. The screw that turns the gear that got chewed up is made of a very hard plastic. It almost feels like that stuff they make school cafeteria plates out of.

The gear that is chewed up is some kind of nylon or something. The shavings are like dandruff, but larger. The opener is 8 years old, but I don't know if that is average life or not.

I have no idea if it could handle a metal replacement gear. But I would be willing to replace all the damn gears in there with metal if I needed to.

I must admit that a metal gear was the first thing I thought about, having read several posts on C4 headlight gear replacement.

Thanks for the reply, and the offer!

I will also see if I can dig up a schematic or something...

Check this site: http://www.overheaddoor.com/BuildADoor/index.htm For an extra 100 bucks you could upgrade to a new opener. Or you could get Xasey to add a new button to this

Well, we're supposed to be having the storm of the century and it's still gray outside, no precip. But there are stories coming in from NorCal that are pretty bad. So we wait.

As for what I did today.

Set here and stared at my computer until noonish, sent my boss an email saying if he didn't have anything for me to do I was outta here. He wrote back "enjoy your day, see ya Monday in Charlotte", and out the door I went. God, I love my job!

Martin Luther King, Jr, Birthday Observed. Schools, and I think most government offices will be closed. The holiday is usually closer to Jan 15th, but this year, the observation is 'late' and is on the 21st.

Gotcha............I guess I forget most of the other holidays, except Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years, they're the only ones our company seems to shut down for, and sometimes not even Thanksgiving.
