For an 85? Not 100% sure but if it is anything like my 88 was its not hard, just time consuming.
Do you need to replace the entire motor assy or just the antenna mast? Just the mast nothing hard has to be done, just get the nut and antenna retainer off, activate the antenna, capture all the pieces it throws out put the new one in and activate the antenna a few times and put the nut and retainer back in place. The replacement antenna I got many years ago had the details with it. For the motor you'll need to remove the left rear tire, inner fender and then you can get to the motor. |

The inside trim has to be removed ('91) . There's a big grommet with wires going thru that was a pain to get seated properly. Also, the ground wire, hard to get both arms up in the wheel well and connect. Tight situation, but probably that's just me. A lift would have helped.
edit: I just looked at some pictures and the harness on the '84-'87 looks to be a much simpler affair. I don't see the big grommet or ground strap.... |

Test the new antenna before doing anything!
Open hatch, remove left and center cover panels. In there, on the left side, above the LR speaker, should be the harness for the antenna. disconnect one, connect the other, test accordingly. Remove the left rear tire, remove the left rear inner fender well, let your arms grow approx 6" - always helps. The antenna is retained by a nut that requires a special tool to remove. Tool should have come with new unit. It is then held on by a couple of 10mm bolts, that also retain the rear bumper to the car. That's the gist of it. There might be a couple of other things I am missing, but thats the crux of it. |
