I know the answer to this, as I have checked threads on it a hundred times, but I keep getting mixed answers. About 50/50

I'm putting the oil pan back up on my LT1 today and have the FelPro one piece blue gasket which the Felpro instructions say to install DRY gasket to clean surface.

FSM says RTV in the corners.

What did you do? How were your results? Any leaks either way?

I used just a touch of RTV in the corners but probably didnt need to. We all know Chevys like to leak there so figure it cant hurt. Being as there is limiters in the gasket didnt see the harm

I guss it can't hurt to smear just a tad "RightStuff" into each corner, just to be on the safe side.
Thanks

This may be even more confusing. Initially I used RTV on the corners of a new OEM oil pan gasket, it leaked. Switched to a Felpro OP gasket, installed it dry, and no leaks 4 years later.

FYI: The Felpro gasket is a little thicker than the OEM.

It just seems so counter-intuitive to install the gasket dry. I could have installed it four times by now if I'd just go do it and stop worrying about it.

I guess I'll flip a coin and let you know how it comes out later.
Thanks for your opinions. It really does help.

I use a touch of RTV... not as a sealer, but to help hold it up during the install.

The FelPro is MUCH thicker, and to be honest, the only chance of a pan leak is if the bolts work loose. So correct torque is very important. There is no oil pressure on the seals of the pan, just a lot of drain back and some splash.

You know, sometimes the biggest mistake people make is using too much sealer. You'll think to yourself "I don't want to do this twice, so I am gonna make sure it's sealed good".

Well guess what? Sometimes, too much sealer or at least too much in the wrong place is just as bad as no sealer where there needs to be some. The old saying "If a little is good, then a lot should be better" is not true in this case.

Well, I was skeared to put much on, but I did smear a tad in each corner. Really not enough to even do much except say I did it and have an excuse later if it leaks.

But it feels good to get back out in the garage. I have been sick most of the holiday and didn't get anything done until today. I hoping that by next weekend I'll have the heads on and intake in place.

By the way - the Kerosene heater burnt me out of there. The only place it was cool was under the car.
