In Sept.2000 we built that totally street friendly 383 stroker for Loy McKenrick's 72 Vette & Vette Magazine.
Here we used a Lunati rotating assembly. I was very happy with the parts and final results.
Dyno results = 599 lb-ft torque @ 2100 rpm's
315 hp @ 4800 rpm's
Thing I liked the most is it idled very smooth and runs on 87!

599 lb ft... OMG... That's sick torque. That would change Earths rotation.

I wonder how I could trade some of that torque for power? As it is, that engine behaves like a diesel!!!

Thanks for finding it!!!

Amazing torque! How did the rear end hold up to that?

How do you get that much torque and only 300 hp? I don't know if I have ever seen that wide of gap before in a gas engine.....

The late 70s were the king of torque... the Pontiac 400, 185 hp and 320 lb ft of torque.

The goal here was to get max torque @ low rpm's on pump fuel , not hp.... I was suprised by the wide margin too, but this combination was very cool if you wanted torque, just a flat tappet Comp Cam & I dont remember what heads we used, I would have to look up the build sheet. I talked to Loy last week looking for the magazine, & he still has the car and says it runs good.
I know they did suspension work to the car as there was a lot of people involved in this build..
They did call it a "Frame twisting amount of torque" in the magazine.
I never got to ride in it :/ .
