I got to playing around on the web and found the Autometer custom gauge page... oooh... fun stuff.

The green is for my 92, question if those gauges would fit... and the red is for bastets 87, and the early dash has more room.

Thoughts? Figure a grand each!!!

if nothing else, it's quite fun.

Yeah, I want two autometer gauges for my car. And they are stupid expensive for a fp gauge and trans temp gauge.

I just saw those in the Big Boy's Toy Store.
I kinda thought they looked like they belonges in a street rod (part of Autometer's "antique" series?).

That's not to say they wouldn't look good in your dash.

Anything's better than digital. And they would work where our analog gauges are..............

Well Autometer gauges do live in a racecar environment.

A mechanical FP gauge?

they have mechanical and electronic for most every gauge.

These are fully customized: colours, fonts, markings, needles and their colour (including an option to 2 tone the needle!), light colours, bezel and bezel colour...

It's pretty cool.

http://www.ampcustomshop.com/

This is the carbon series, with black nickel plated bezel, green lights and red pointers with white hubs and tails.

Looks pretty trick, eh?

No, I want to run it inside the cabin on the a pillar so it needs to be electronic.

You can run a mechanical FP gauge inside the cabin but you need an isolator which is basically some braided tubing and a rubber diaphragm. The cabin side is filled with antifreeze (I guess its physical characteristics are similar to gasoline(?). It's a bit of a PITA to get bled properly, but before the electronic units came out it was the only option.

Thanks for that info. Not something I'm willing to do when I can buy an electronic unit with no chance of anything rupturing inside the cabin.

The isolators work well, used them on racecars.

Personnally, I can't see the need for the gauge but that's just me.

I think the trans temp is important, even if the fp isn't as much. But if I'm gonna put in a one gauge pod, might as well put in a dual

As always, customize you car as you want.

I sorta feel the same way about the trans temp.
I did put one in my Chev van when I was towing the racetrailer.

On the first tow to the track, I watched the temps go up towing up the mountain, OH My!

After a couple months, I quit looking at it.

Funny that the trans grenaded going into Laguna Seca with the temp reading normal.

yes, VetteAid does have some neat stuff... and I want to talk to them about a brain fade I am having... or more like a brain storm... either way, it could be ugly.

I like the VetteAid idea, a lot, just don't like the overly plain install.

I want to do it with another top plate and better graphics for turn signals and high beams... little LEDs with no graphics is a bit lame. The top plate also makes the gauges look flush to the IP, leaving a more finished look. I am also thinking of covering said top plate with a layer of carbon fibre of some sort.
