Ford has decided the image of their cars is their property. No matter how you use the image, or who owns the car! They squashed a calendar being produced by the Black Mustang Club.

How stupid can you be?

Whoa...

But I could totally see GM doing the same thing.

They should just have the calendar made at a local Wal-Mart and do the distribution themselves.

I could see GM being that stupid... if it weren't for the Corvette. If GM tried that on a Corvette club, they'd use up a whole bunch of goodwill. And that can be very expensive to try to reclaim.

GM generally frowns on you using pictures from their media (brochure pictures, etc.), but I've never seen them go after a club for their own pictures ...

WOW!! Talk about going overboard!

BMC Owner Lisa commented to group members, "I'm sorry, but at this point we will not be producing the 2008 BMC Calendar, featuring our 2007 Members of the Month, solely due to Ford Motor Company's claim that they own all rights to the photos you take of your car.

How can they own the rights to a picture you took yourself?

I could understand completely if you took an image from one of their brochures or other Ford copyrighted work. But this does not make sense.

That is just insane. It basically means that every news cast that shows a Ford product is someone violating their intellectual property claim.

GM is very liberal when it comes to clubs. You need their approval, but that's about it.

I have never heard of such draconian behaviour. Geez... just absurd.

If BMC is lucky they'll have a very good lawyer as a member. I don't see how any company can prohibit a person using a picture of his own property.

What will they do next, go after the limousine companies that show a Lincoln in their ads?

You would think they would want their pictures and your pictures of their vehicles all over the place. They squash those guys, then they spend how much money to buy the advertising rights on Americal Idol for an entire season. (Or maybe more than 1 season, it was the only one I watched!)
