Thank you very much for your reply sir, another person told me just about the very same thing and told me that it does that on the crossfires sometimes when you goose them when they are Idleing and the throttlebody doesn't close back all the way.
I'll check this all out in the morning.
Once again,Thank you sir. daddue11

Hey folks,I was out awhile ago warming up my 1984 coupe, the coolant temp after about inutes was reading at 163,it was Idleing at 800 rpm,I just bumped the gas pedal with my foot and the CHECK ENGINE light came on so I checked it with my code scanner and it through out the code 21 and my code book says that means"TPSsignal voltage is high durin idle or deceleration."
The light stays on now.
Can anyone tell me how to fix this poblem? Replace sensor?adjust something?
I finally found my big manual and I can't find anything about the voltage readings at the TPS or what to do for it.
Any help is appreciated,Thanks daddue11.

He speaks from experience.

Maybe not exactly like that but Yep,I've learned most of my lessons the hard way.
When the C6s are being reposessed by the bank this spring I'll come cruising by in my super slow paid for 84 Crossfire and then we'll see who's the envious ones.

My 84 is two things..The first Corvette I've ever owned and I am still in AWH of it and that is still enough for me.
The second is it's the fastest car that I've ever owned,That's great.3RD I've never driven a TPI Vette so I don't know what I'm missing.
It's been 2 years now and I'm still in love with my shiney red bride, couldn't possibly be lusting after something else.
The way I figure,If I went the TPI route then I'd always be wanting something better and faster.
I always see quite a few later 80s and early 90s Vetters wanting to trade up for something newer, faster, better.
The Crossfire is just fine and dandy for me thank you.

If you have something nice, you better appreciate it. There's a lot worse.

Guru and CF, I was on another one untill they tried to sell me a phoney "transmission super chip".
I don't see much drama on either Guru or CF anymore,I don't go to either one like I used to. I think it was probably a benificially good split for both sides beause now Us less knowledgable folks have more places to learn from. Both sites ar great if you don't ever ask the question"What's y'alls opinion". That's definately a ego buster waiting o happen.

I first given the 84 set on cd by a friend, then, Last Christmas another friend gave me the printed set so I can take it out to the garage and read it while I'm working on the Vette.
Those and my code reader plus this site has been my most valuable tools while working on my 84.
Between the three there hasn't been a prob that I can't diagnose and fix.

Thanks my friends for the info. It really helped.

That sounds about right to me.
I really don't want to keep it for years and finally find out that it needs a bushle load of modifying even before the install.
I'll just sell the van and modify the Vette, a body makeover and paint job would be nice for the spring.

Thanks everybody,I probably would have had a headache on my hands.

Both the van and Vette are automatics.
Would the tranny from the van fit underneath the Vette also?

Hello folks,
I have a 1996 g20 sportvan with a 350 c.i.d engine with just over 28,000 orogional miles,
The question that I have is-Would the engine and or tranny fom the van fit in my 84 Corvette? and what would the h.p. difference be between the Corvette motor and the van motor?
If it is a can do situation than I'll just take out the motor and tranny for a spare for when the Vette needs a new one and sale the van body to a friend that's been wanting it.
Thank you. daddue.

No,honestly guys,I think this place has gotten better whith all of the changes and all.
You all did a heck of a job getting it all to pop.

Yes, then you can take that clingy to the tattoo shop and have them needle the logo on your arm.
With my arms it'd have to be awfully small letters.

Hey friends,I've been a member here for a year or so give or take awhile and it really got my nickers in a twist when I heard they or we were going full Vette instead of just C-4 exclusive.
I remember that at a certain other site where the members would put others members cars down and there was alot of gloom and fighting among the gens.
Needless to say I thought it would be that way here in a while so,I took a break from visiting any Vette sites.
Well here's a couple of things that I found out from my being absent.

1. I hate to say this but,I found out that I was hurting myself and had gotten TOO dependent on posting questions and waiting for someone to answer or tell me what I already could have done if I would have stopped and deducted it myself,or,I could have wrestled it out of the manual. And I'm my own man, hell, I don't need anyone to tell me what a Vette should look like.
I was taking it too much to heart. In short I was being freakin lazy when I had the answers at my fingertips.

2.Don't wait for or don't expect anyone to give you or your stuff a compliment because L\Gs you've got to like yourselves and your shyt enough not to care what others think and if you're that proud of it then it don't matter what list of wrongs someone else has about it.Every person is different. And if you going looking for an argument you'll find one, learn from all sides because I don't care how smart you are, there is something to be learned from all things.

2 1\2. Be patiant enough to find out how things will change and be and don't shoot your mouth off about things untill you've had time to soak it in and understand it totally.

Depend on yourself and not someone else to solve your problems.
If you have to have aprovel of you're beloved car then, baby you don't love it,get something else.
I know that's more than a couple of things.sue me.

My compliments to the ones that run this site,You've proved me wrong but gave me knowledge that I had all along.
Y'all are numero uno in me ole heart again and my opologies if I pithed anyone off.

I can see how if someone got a really bad runing xfire system that was poorly adjusted and with the limitted amount of reliable mechies around these little towns like mine that have never seen one let alone worked on one that they would think that they were crap.
But, come on people,I just here the same thing over and over which is"when they are running propperly they're very good, but when they aren't then that's when you have a big problem".
Well now, tell me about any other carbed, feul injected or even a diesel that isn't the same way.
And I've never seen a carbed conversion that hasn't had it's problems and still ran Good when it was running out of tuned specs.I mean you can't get 10 sec cars from a 205 h.p. engine anyways can you?
I wish most people would see the 84s as what it was made for,it's a vintage sleek, well handling, well rounded sports car that paved the way for numerous other makes and models to progress and be refined.
The only thing that I wish for is that I wish there were other cars that you could interchange parts with.
The only other car I've ever had that coul out run it was a 396 cid 1970 Chevelle and that couldn't touch my 84 in handling.
I'm gonna keep mine forever or until events command that I sell it for my family's betterment,I still would like to own a newer Vette though or drive one just to compare all aspects of it.

The biggest problem with CFI is that it is very limited in its power capabilities. To hot rodders this makes a design junk almost instantly, whether rightfully warranted or not. It was a great idea very poorly executed by GM. When you look at the intake manifold itself, you'll see just how small the ports are. No air means no power. GM could have designed it better.

As for drivability and reliability, if running correctly, there's no reason it shouldn't be better than a carb. Like mentioned, it's a very basic TBI unit. GM trucks used TBI well into the 90's no problem. For their time, CFI was neat and "the future". Technology advanced and gave us the L98. It then advanced more and we had the LT1/4, Gen 3, and now Gen 4 motors. What's next? Who knows but it better be better than what it replaced.

Glad to know yours is running well daddue. I don't see any CFI cars too often. I wonder what happened to them all?

That's hard to guess,I know that mine was stolen twice before I bought her,I'm lucky that she wasn't gutted and burned, they did tear up the inside and I'm surprized they didn't lift the motor and sell it.
It's probably because they didn't think anyone would buy a crossfire thank goodness.
I think most of them have been shredded by now, there are alot for sale on the swaplines for sale but most of them are real dogs that have been experimented with so much.
like mine,I'd have to spend another fortune to bring her to the Restored state,so I'm just happy as a pig in shit to have a good lookin, solid, nice running, special to me ( my dream car),I'll be happy for the rest of my life because I have a Corvette.
But you're right,I seldom hear of a good running crossfire Vette.

The only time my car ever left me stranded was two nights after I got her I went for a night ride and it ran out of juice, and that was because a Varmit chewed the wire coming off the generator.I taped it used my jump box and never looked back.

I'd have to agree with him,the system on my 84 works perfect and runs a sight better than the carbed ones that I've seen and driven,no thanks to me,I was just lucky to find it in that condition.

Don't spit out the window,do like I do,shoot your loogie on the windshield and let it run down to the defroster vent turn on the fan and let it dry up the ooz and then scrape it off at the end of your trip.
If ya got a real good woman she'll let you use her cell phone to scrape it off.

Ahhh, seeing this thread really touches my heart, for it was about a year and a half ago when I saw my Destiny(my Vette)that I drooled over when I saw her umpteen years earlier.
She was sitting under a walnut tree and had turned dark green and black from all the sap and pollen, she's supposed to be maroon, her insides were gutted and she had 3 flats and one bald one still aired up, I had to air up 4 basketballs to get her high enough to get a jack under her.
I didn't care what shape she was in I knew she was my Destiny and with a little time, elbow grease, and not half as much money as I thaught it would take,WhaaLaa! she's now my companion for life. Not factory origional, but origional Me.
When I was in highschool a body like that would be snatched up quick, but with the econome the way it is I cringe to think of the older classics will just rot.

Hey folks it's been awhile since I've posted last.
I've just been silently fixing my Destiny up to where she's in perfect runnin condition and have made it my car.
I just wanted to make the comment that I don't understand about the non love for the crossfire injection in the 84s,I've driven 2 others that havechanged to carbs and they can't hold a candle to the ooomph and gas milage of the crossfire.
Maybe the crossfires that they had or drove weren't kept in top shape.
You can't buy an old mule for bargain prices and expect it to run lik a thoroughbred.
In my opinion a well maintained and tuned c-fire system is all together better than a single carb anyday. JMO.

Like Abraham lincoln said " It's all good brother "
or was that Samuel Jackson ?

Ah Heck, I'm a selfish old bastard myself and I'm proud to come from a long line of them.

This gen of kids? I say kill everlast one of the little bastards, then there will be plenty of everything for us old fogies.

Hell, we can always make more.(kids)
We got Viagra now.

Then, We shall gather at the river and wash our dirt asses.

O.k. That's my true opinion and you can't get that from a cola nut.

I'm always glad to help out.

My opinion about the younger generation not having respect for us older gens.
Why should they, weren't alot of us the 60s and 70's kids?
The free love, burning flag and your draft cards along with a bra or two?
Wasn't it our gens that made it o.k. and a womans choise to have the younger gens dismembered, tortured, mangled inside of the womb, used for experaments and then thrown awy in a dumpster so they wouldn't be burdened with the responsibility of raising that child.
And was'nt it our generations that passed the laws against spanking our children to disipline them.
And it was our generation that lerft these indignant kids in front of the tube while both parents worked and went to all of the Shriners, masons,KOC,elks meetings or was it bingo?
Who was it that showed them how to pimp a girl out on the street or to manufacture newer and better drugs?
Whitch gen was it that taught them to hate others for the color of there skin? Hang the darkies!! didn't that used to be the battle cry for a past gen?

O.K., Yes the new gens are disrespectful of the older gens,BUT,What can you expect MORONS, WE'VE taught them too dammed well. Disrespect this, you do gooders.

If they saved all these billions of dollars by kicking seniors off SS.
Then what do you think they would use all that money for.
Don't tell me what they should spend it for. Tell me What they would spend it on.
Would they tell EVERY working person that they no longer had to pay that amount of taxes anymore,Get real Dude.
And as far as your comment about old bastards thinking that they are intitled to a health care plan and retired benifits?
You are dammed right they are, because Why?
Becaused that's what they were promised when the government started the program Ducky.
How many tax loop holes have you taken advantage of?
And the ME generation? Oh your poor kids, Huh?
I have adult children, 3 of them, and who in the hell is gonna pay for your kids SS I'm sure they won't turn down any benifits,And I'm sure you won't either and haven't.
The only thing that you're mad at is There might not be anything left for you.
You know, one of these days some kid's gonna look at you with your Vette or Vettes and see you cashing your SS check and think,Why in the hell does he need governmrnt help for? He's loaded. Are You a selfish old bastard that ruined the future for your kids?
According to you You are.
My mother was married to my father who served in the military for 30 years, He died of a heart attack soon after retiring and because he didn't sign some papers in the right place my mother was left pennyless after all that time.
She went on SS and medicare because she didn't want us kids to have to take care of her.
If something like that happened to you, How would you survive,Oh, let me guess you're family would take of you?
Selfish old bastard ? Naw, Just human like the rest of us.
And I'm sure as hell Not sorry about this post.

This is the audio project that I'm finishing up on now.
I installed the Sony xsplode stereo and attached to it is a SonyXplod XM-554zr 4/3 channel amp and installed it inside the inclosure.
I cut and fabbed the speaker box to fit the back compartment.
I still have to install the 6x9s either somewhere in front or at the front bottom of the inclosure, the magnets are to deep for the back speaker places, they are also Xplod 250 watts with 25 oz magnets.
I might have to exclude them.
The bass in it already messages the back of your body when it thumps and the mids and highs are crisp also.
Please feel free to suggest where to place the 6x9s in the front compartment, and my body cavities don't count.

bogus,I should have put that different,I wasn't talking about you in that post,I was just saying that when I was a newb and dummer than I am now, that I would take others advice and go to those places and think that it was impossible to even get my Vette halfway fixed up because the prices for everything were outrageous and people talked like it was nothing to get a full set of rims and tires or stuff for moding their engines.
And I was there only since this March or april and Yes the people pushed the sponsors.
When someone would say a negative coment about it,they would Usually get dogpiled on from the ones that did like the sponsor.
It wasn't as free as people talk it up to be.
It was a money maker then also just not as cut throat maybe as it is now.
And it was never as Free Spirit and nice as this site is right now.
You've done wonders with this place,You never hear "shut the f**ck up newb" over here like I did when giving my opinion on the other site.
It had to make the newbs intimidated at the time, that's all I'm saying.
Having knowledge and tech info is good, but don't forget that we are here for the poor Corvette Lifestyle also.
All tech and no screwing around makes for a dull week .
I LOVE THI SITE. :thumbleft:

CC- you nailed it. Why confuse their ignorance with facts?

It's the #1 reason why people continue to buy all their accessories and parts are from places like Ecklers, cause their baby is worth it...

Yeah, that's mostly the newer gens, but if most of us with older C4s like myself were to tell the truth,we try to find used and cheapest that we can get, because of the income. But when we entered the forums it was the older and supposedley wizer members that were pushing the CF sponsors such as ecklers and tire rack. and it wasn't until it changed hands that I heard people starting to give any of the sponsors bad reviews.
And whenever they did give a bad review or opinion,There would be half a dozen others jumping their case. And I'm sure that in the C5 and C6 it's 10 times worse.

Another good reason for them to remove all the more knowledgable members from the forum is there is alot of SH*T sold by vendors that simply does not work, and many other items that dont go close to the hype (the magical chip being a very prime example).

If it wasn't for you all ,I would have fallen for that one.
I told the seller that I would talk to the gurus on this site and the other site.
The seller promptly refunded my money plus a few extra bucks
for my troubles and any fees inquired.

It a bunch of

Just think about it, when a sports celebrity athlete screws up and pisses the fans off, then the sponsors think about pulling the endorsements,
These IB people aren't thinking very smart,If they would think about it then they would know that the site members REALLY pay their bills.
The members gottem by the short and curlies,if they use there CONSUMER influence.

That's what I was trying to say a few posts up.
If they keep pissing their members off and kicking them off.members wich are the sponsors clientell and the sponsors see this.
Especially if the members complain about how the adds are placed and how they are treated.
Not to smart of this IB,is it?

This probabily doesn't help this question at all, but, I did find out first hand that the temp control for the heat is controlled by a cable hooked to the temp switch.
