Mike was inducted into the Great Hall over the weekend and I was fortunate enough to chat with him and get his autograph on a new copy of his 2013 Corvette Black Book.
I asked him if he actually owned a Corvette. He told me that he had recently sold his 2008 and was thinking about what his next one might be. I asked if it would be a 2014 C7 and he stated that he was not sure yet and wanted to see which color might complement the new look the best.
I asked what gave him the idea to publish the Black Book and he said that during the 1970s he became interested in Corvettes and realized that this was a niche that had not been filled so he stepped in and got it done.
I told him how I really enjoyed his C4 Specs book and how I had read it cover-to-cover when I was unable to work a few years ago due to a broken ankle. (I did not read all the manufacturer's summaries though as they are too detailed).
Mike appears to be a good guy who is not full of himself like some people in the Corvette biz are prone to be.
Meeting him was the highlight of my trip to Champaign, IL !

Cool! I have four or five of the Black Books (don't ask!) and Corvette Specs.

Cool story Ron!

I love digging out my old 1980 edition of the CBB, and then flipping through the pages of the current edition and marveling at all of the changes that have taken place over the years.

Think about it: The C4 was still in the early stages of development at that point, and they were still being built in St. Louis.

LOVE the Corvette Black Book!
