Yep, I've seen some of those. They also had a baby blue one - a friend had one of those.

Very much of its age, but I like it. I've never seen a Yellow Bird (1980-1981), but I have seen a Red Bird (1978-1979) and a couple of Sky Birds (light blue, 1977).

All were Esprit-based - not (relatively) high performance, but that was the Formula's and Trans Am's job. For 1980, you started with the 3.8 liter/110 bhp V6. The best possible engine for one of these would have been the 5.0 liter/150 bhp V8, but I doubt many were sold that way.

Interesting to me, that the interior didn't change. I had a 70 Firebird and the interior looks just the same.

I had a friend that bought a Blue Bird... Powder Blue with the girly looking firebird graphic on the B-Pillar. He caught so much grief from everyone for buying a chick car that he is probably psychologically damaged for life. It was tough for them to be cool standing up against the TAs and Z28s of the day even though they were all kind of dogs in mid to late 70s

My friend's girlfriend (now his wife of 27 years) had the blue one. He put poly bushings in it in an attempt to get it to handle better, and she hated the harsh ride, so she sold it.
