I've recently rebuilt/upgraded my transmission. Some of you have
probably seen my thread on CF but I thought I'll post it here anyway
along with some questions on a few issues that I still haven't solved.

Anyway, here is a short version;

Parts list that I've ordered through PeteK according to his suggestions:

Alto red clutch kit
Beast reaction shell
Kevlar band
Clevite bushing kit
govenor gear
govenor retaining clip
thrust washer and selective endplay washer kit
front seal retainer
reverse piston orifice
3 accu pistons
lock up solenoid
29 element sprag
low roller clutch
accu springs
new pump vanes
hardened pump rings and slide spring kit
lock up connector
filter
transgo 700 2&3 shift kit
transgo separator plate
.471 boost valve
oring style lo/rev boost valve
vette servo kit
4th wot upshift valve

I have also added trans cooler and 9,5" 2800 stall TC.

Here are some pics of project progress:

-all large assemblies ready to be installed back into tranny case:

- befor I started to assemble things together, I did all work necessary on
valve body. I took quite some time because of the mods necessary to
convert it for stick shift operation

After ~1000miles here are my observations:

1-2 upshift- absolutely great, instant, with no delay when shift lever moved to 2, really quick and firm shift
2-3 upshift- same as 1-2 upshift
3-4 upshift- instant when lever moved to OD but not as firm as
on 1-2 and 2-3 upshifts. If I try to upshift at wot above 500 rpm I have to
let go off throttle to get shift. Below 5000, I have normal wot upshift.

4-3 downshift- instant when lever moved and if throttle blip
applied, really smooth
3-2 downshift- same as 4-3
2-1 downshift- smooth but with little delay when lever pulled to 1 fully warmed
2-1 downshift with cold tranny, there is even more delay and it feels like
I have pressed brake pedal before 1st gear engage

Here is what is bugging me:
1. Why I dont have 3-4 wot upshift above 5000 rpm?
2. What can be causing 2-1 downshift delay?
3. When I start hard in 1st and if I let go off pedal I can hear loud squeel
sound for a moment. That only happens if I let of throtle after hard start
and in 1st. I f I continue to push and shift to 2nd, there is no sound.
What could cause that?
4. What can cause that "no 1st engage" with cold 2-1 downshift?

P.S. Did I say here is a short version in the begining?

Wow. What a project! I know so little about AT's it ain't even funny... wait for Pete.

However, I have to ask for clarification, problem #1, is that supposed to be 5000 RPM?

Actually, it looks much more complicated than it really is.
But service manual is a must!

I am sorry that I have not replied. I have been traveling, and have had little time to think it through. Conv 90 is having a similar issue. I am wondering if the common denominator is the wot 3-4 sleeve for the tv valve.
The gm valve for the valvebody has long been discontinued.

Hi Pete, thanks for reply. I know that you don't have as much time as you used to have to anwser to all of our questions.

So, you think that maybe original GM 3-4 sleeve could solve this 3-4
upshift issue. I still have my 3-4 sleeve arround, so maybe I could
try with that, but I never had 3-4 WOT upshift before rebuild. I do get wot
3-4 upsift now, just not above 5000rpm.

Do you have any idea on what could be that loud squeal sound?
