Well, I was having problems with the forum and I accidentally deleted Gris' original question:
"ON A STOCK '87 SHOULD THE FAN COME ON WHEN THE AC IS TURNED ON OR SHOULD THERE BE A DELAY BEFORE THE FAN KICKS ON" Well, the correct answer (I only gave a partial answer before) is this: The fan is controlled by the ECM in two ways: 1) via the coolant temperature sensor when it reaches the programmed temperature; 2) via the fan control switch (located on the a/c lines) that signals the ECM to turn it on. Once the a/c is activated, the pressure will begin to build. Once it hits 233 psi, the switch will activate and send a signal to the ECM to turn the fan on in order to control the head pressure in the a/c system. So the basic answer to the above question is: there may be a delay in the fan turning on once a/c is turned on, based on the pressure in the system. |
