Just changed my distributor and a Crankshaft position sensor code came in. Truck starts up and sounds great. Any ideas short of changing out that sensor?

I have no personal experience...but apparently the crankshaft position sensor is based on the distributor gear/distributor.

Also found this quote:
typically, the 1345 code is either the cam sensor, the crank sensor, distributor is off, or timing chain jumped. unfortunately, it can cost a bit to figure out. first step would be to have a dealer read the cam/crank offset. this needs to be set to 0 degrees, + or - 2 degrees. you could end up spending money on sensors that don't need replacing, when it just needs a quick adjustment of distributor. now, a distributor drive gear worn out could cause this code to. generally, if the cam or crank sensor goes out, motor won't run. i'd have the cam offset, also known as cam retard, checked. go from there. |

Having the retard set today. I must of dropped in a tooth off. TDC, Compression stroke #1 Cylinder, Distributor rivet and white mark matched on bottom of distributor and she fell right into place, rotor was pointing and #1. Can't see how I missed it!!!

You not gonna believe this..... after reaching my wits end I finally gave in and put it in the shop. Mind you I had installed a new distributor, doubled checked the timing, installed a new crankshaft position sensor all to try and get this "buck" out of the engine. Turned out to be the friggin plug wires. I installed a new set of wires and truck runs GREAT. Sometimes it's the simple things.......
Thanks for all of your inputs! |

Glad it's fixed!
And I believe it. I've seen many times on a high mileage/or old set of plug wire that were "OK" and the engine was running good until several wires were moved around. This movement was just enough to crack the wire and cause a mis-fire! Joel |

Wow, never guessed that one. Start with the basics. Did you check your timing chain like we discussed in the other thread?

Checking the timing chain was next on my list but I did not get around to it. I did discuss it with the shop that had it and they confirmed that there wasn't any "clacking"or unusual noise. Engine just turned over 100k so that's probably something I should change out.
Now on to the fan clutch! |
