Simple question. I nicked the SIR wire via the lock plate after fixing my steering wheel repair (Wiring hraness for turn signals etc pushed plate upp as it wasnt routed as tightly as it was with original housing and got nicked too causing wipers to run errtically). Just the yellow, not the actual wires. I tightly wrapped the wires with electrical tape. But , to be safe, till I am sure after driving and checking it a few times to verifiy it is not getting hit by the plate lock again, I want to disable to Air Bag.
I found this article, but its for 94-96 Vettes dual air bags.

I don't mind airbags... they do a great job.

Personally, I would fix the broken wire... but that's me.

Then there is always a liability issue if you ever sold and someone got killed or maimed. Not to mention it's maybe just a teensee weensee bit illegal.

I did the best repair on the wire I could. It was very good electrical tape from my shop. But, just to disable it till I am confident its repaired, via checking it periodically , would be nice. Why doesnt the fuse do anything?
The kit GM sells is nice, but a 100 bucks, and not my 1993 single air bag year.

I recently picked up a sensor for my 90 (single year) on the pre-owned market. Haven't changed it out yet but it's in the works. Cost me $25 + shipping. It should be O.K. though if it is as minor as you said.

I guess the "easiest" way to disable it would be to run into the back of something. Close your eyes when you do

25 bucks is pretty darn cheap. I am going to change the electrical tape out with vulcanized rubber eltrical tape today. The electricians here at work said this is a tougher material and will hold up better than electrical. If I could cut it and put heat shrink I would. But it was just a nick.

Disabling the SIR system (per FSM):

Remove or Disconnect:

*Turn the steering wheel so that the vehicle's wheels are pointing straight ahead.
*Turn the ignition switch to "LOCK."
1. AIR BAG fuse from fuse block.
2. Lower trim Panel - LH
3. Connector Position Assurance (CPA) and yellow 2-way connector at the base of the steering column

IMPORTANT
*With the AIR BAG fuse removed and ignition switch "ON," the "INFL REST" warning lamp will be "ON." This is normal operation and does not indicate an SIR system malfunction.

Thanks for the FSM deal. I just didnt want the bulb to be lit and staring at me all the time. I have some vulcanized electrical tape I am putting over the wire tomorrow.I am curious if the wire is twisted so it stays down.
See how this picture looks, as if the SIR wire is twisted to compensate for steering and movement.
