See my mods below. Lingenfelter and Accel engineers told me to expect about 430CHP. I think that's optimistic, whatever....

What size injectors should I use and how do you come to that conclusion?

Lloyd Elliot said for me to go with 30# with the setup he sent me making something like 450CHP. Actualy he was claming 400RWHP I am just guessing that close to 450 at the crank. I bet if your not off by a lot you can still get things running good by tweeking the tune a bit. Hope that helps.

Get the balanced FMS 24# injectors. Avoid Accel at all costs.

I have a set of Standard Motor Parts injectors that are 24#, brand new. I have less than 250 miles on them.

I was wondering if I need more.

I just bought the FMS 30# injectors. Lloyd told me with a good tune and my cam I could expect to get near the 400RWHP mark, and still thought I should go with the 30# injector with my "emissions" cam.

How do you tell what injector to use? I wish there were some standards that were derived from engine air flow and cam specs, but I haven't seen anything in writing.

I bet the people at PCM4LESS could come up with some kind of chart, might already have one.

The old Yellow-bodied Accels do have a reputation for being junk. The redesigned Accels (silver body) seem to have a good reputation. "tjwong" over on Brand X has an interesting post:

Quote:
Just to set the story straight. Accel did have problems with their injectors awhile back. Since about 8 months ago their complete injector line has been revamped. All of their injectors are now utililizing a disc style valve mechanism. I have sold 300+ injectors in the last few months and not one problem. The new design is totally reliable. I beleive that they are made by the same company that makes the Delphi Lucas disc injectors. The bodies are identical to the Delphi units. Just like most companies, Accel doesn't actually manufacture their own injectors. Their old injectors were a bosch design with the common pintle valve, who made them I have no idea.

Youve got to be kidding mate, they wont flow nearly enough for that engine.

Youll be wanting abit more than 24 lb/hr, even the GS80s had 28 lb/hr injectors way back then.

Guess I'm looking at new injectors....suggestions please.

I have a set of Standard Brand FMJ-47. Summit gets about $700 for these. $300 to whoever can use them. They have less than 200 miles on them.

430 HP will burn about 190 lbs of fuel in 1 hour at full power. Divide by the number of injecters (8) gives you 23.75 lb injecters. Probably should have a cushin as the injectors will not run for long at 100% so 27 to 30 lb injectors.

No way would i trust that, i wouldnt like to see anything more than 85% DC at the most. But thats just me, and ive never been left short on anything.

What are FMJ-47? How much rated flow @ what pressure?

I kinda hope they are not the 24 lb/hr injectors youre talking about, cause i just bought some 36 lb/hr injectors for a total of $380 and that was to my doorstep here in Australia.

Thanks for the link.

I was going to buy 50lb injectors for my blower engine.
Looks like I need to step it up even further!

I tried to track down exactly what the injectors I have are, since I could not find a specific spec sheet on them.

I got in touch with Standard Automotive Products, the manufacturer. I spoke directly to the ENGINEER who designs these things. He spent and hour and a half on the phone with me going over exactly how an injector works.

We calculated that my car would require 28-33LB injectors. 33LB would be preferred by his estimates. I'm going to split the difference at 30#s.

We went through the nuances of disc vs. Pinter vs. Pinter disk. He calculated the fuel pressure I would need to use my current injectors, which is 82PSI. The magnets in my injectors will not overcome those pressures and the injector will not open.

He also explained how companies arrive at flow numbers. One company's 30 pound injector may be another's 32 pound injector. There 's three different liquids used to flow injectors, an alcohol, something else, and gas. Alcohol is more viscous and will report different flow numbers, lower flow numbers.

He also explained what the duty cycle meant and why it was important.

Finally, you'd be surprised how many injectors roll off the assembly line from the same plant. Same materials, same QC, same QA. One goes left it's X brand, if it goes right it's Y brand.

Which in retrospect makes me chuckle how people say X brand is better than Y brand when the only difference is the stamped number on the casing and the color of the plastic top...

I learned a lot and I will consider a number of brands that these guys OEM for (he asked me not to mention the brands, so I won't). The first person who tells me that brand sucks will be talking out of their ass.

This is the kind of research I did with my entire build. I did not leave it to manufacturer advertising, marketing, internet blowhards (present company excluded) and paid for magazine articles. Go to the source, they know better than anyone.

I hope this helped someone, somewhere.

Thats a rip off mate, way too much for those. If i bought Bosch 36lb/hr injectors for $380 USD shipped right to my door, theoretically, i got more injector for less than half the price (cause that price you quote doesnt include the shipping that mine does).

The only website you need to know when ordering things like this is here: http://maxxwrench.com/_wsn/page7.html
