It appears that the 'Search' feature is only available
to persistent people who root around until they find it
at the bottom of a thread.

At a minimum, please consider having the Search appear at
the TOP of threads.

To really do it right, find a way to have the search appear
eveywhere from the home page, on the page showing the Index
of Forums, sub-forums, everywhere!

For bonus points, learn from the mistakes of others and
make it so that the only option is the Advanced Search.
If/when critical mass occurs here, the default General
Search will prove to be as useless and frustrating to the
uninitiated as it is on the vBulletin boards.

:sign3: on everything!

I don't know how to change the layout yet though. This is important and bmwgsa and bogus should put this high on their list.

Also, the search does not let you distinguish between a thread starter, and a reply. So if I search for all threads started by say, bogus, it gives me every single post he's ever made.

As far as search placement, I think the top left main menu should read like so, and the search link go directly to an advanced search page:

HOME
VIEW FORUMS
SEARCH FORUMS
CLASSIFIEDS
TECH LIBRARY
GURUDICTIONARY
UPCOMING EVENTS
MEMBERSHIP

Visitors see the homepage first and probably want to see a few basics on there, pretty pictures of corvettes, registration and login forms, forum links, and a search box, and the recent posts is a nice touch. It would also be nice if visitors could use the search without registering (can they?) unless it's too much of a burden on the server of course. Because there's really no point in someone signing up IMO if they never want to post.

I added a Search feature to the top of the left nav that will appear on all pages. I couldn't make it be a default Advanced Search, but hopefully this will get us started.
