I was thinking about replacing my interior trim since it is very dull and looks like crap...that is until I saw how much it costs....ARE THEY CRAZY???? That much for a piece of plastic??? And I DO know plastic...

Sooo, I started fooling around with Mothers Aluminum Mag Polish and lo and behold...my trim(after a few hours of some tedious elbow greasing....looks brand new...I'll see how long it lasts and maybe I won't need to clear coat it.

If it isn't broken, I'm not buying it at these prices...

It had a dull finish from the factory to reduce glare, but most I see after 20 years have been shined up. Looks terrible IMO.

Getting the finish to look uniform is a big factor, and that gets harder and harder the shinier it gets.

Do you have pics?

Also if you have a 4+3, be careful with the center console trim! You'd have to dig a hole in the bottom of the Red Sea to find a replacement.

To be fair though, if you had almost any other car that old, there wouldn't be any source at all for replacing that stuff. I don't really believe in a Corvette tax, at least not on parts cost. But some of the catalogs have almost 100% markup over others. The other day I was looking for a clutch cylinder and one place had it for $300, another for $110 for the same exact part.

And if you need replacement parts (but not interior/reproduction stuff) try rockauto.com.

THe trim in my car was sun faded and cracked, so I caulked the cracks and sprayed some textured spraypaint on them and they look great, and don't show the imperfections.
