I need to replace my windshield on my 90. I found out after removing the trim to clean it for new Weatherstripping.
I know there is a seal of sorts that is atleast on both sides of the windshield but not sure if it goes around the top too. Anyone have any GM part #s for them? Glass shop said If I needed that I would need to get it.. Thanks |

Do you mean the metal channel on top of the windshield that the weatherstripping adheres to?
Matthew edit: I have that cheap cd from ebay with the parts catalog on it...I'm looking at it but not 100% sure which part you need. Is it in the FSM? |

It is called "A Pillar Weatherstripping" and Wilcox is the best quality for the money. Be patient in both removing the old and installing the new, and do not bend the retainer strips.
How did you even find a ZR1 windshield? Bet that was expensive. |

Jeff, I see this in the FSM...looks like they just call it sealing strips...I'll look for a part no later.
I took pics of the FSM but they are big so I'll just post the links, I don't know how to do the thumbnails that get bigger when you click on them. http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y110/matatk/Corvette/IMGP0865.jpg http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y110/matatk/Corvette/IMGP0866.jpg Matthew |

There is no seal. That drawing is b.s.
There's a metal frame that's part of the chassis... The installers apply their urethane(?) adhesive directly to this. There's a foam piece (dust/noise seal) with adhesive backing that sticks to the bottom inner part of the frame that helps keep the glass from bottoming out against the hood latch housings during install, and also sorta seals off the gap between the dash and the glass. They drop the glass down on the urethane... Then while it's still wet they install the 3 surround moldings which screw into the frame. The top molding has the weatherstrip retainer riveted to it. On the side ones, the weatherstrip retainers are seperate and go on with sticky-back adhesive. Then the A-pillar weatherstrip installs into the retainers and 4 push nuts hold it in place at the corners. Then you reinstall whatever plastic interior trim you removed. Again , there is no windshield seal on the C4, it's just a bead of urethane adhesive! Who's doing your glass? It's not your typical install. If the glass shop does not have a tech with C4 experience, then go elsewhere. (Of course they'll lie and tell you they do.) I went through this nightmare already and after they broke a few windshields and trashed my factory moldings, it's still f***** up and leaks worse. Next time I'll do it myself. If the weatherstrip retainers are not perfectly sealed to the windshield surround mouldings, it WILL leak. If the windshield is installed too high (glue bead too thick) the wipers WILL crash into the hood. If the windshield is not located properly, the moldings will not screw on (unless they drill new holes in your frame.) If the windshield moldings are not installed flush with the glass, it WILL leak. They will scratch the paint on the windshield frame when they remove the old glue. If they do not touch-up the scratches, the frame WILL rust. |

if there is No seal per se, then what is used between the windshield metal surround and the windshield frame and also the metal surround and the Weatherstrip retainer?
As for installer, I am using a local conpamy that has one specific guy doing the C4 installs |

I forgot to say the surround trim pieces have a closed-cell foam backing, this seals against the frame. The seal between the weatherstrip retainer and surround is just by that double stick tape. They're both flat metal so they seal fine if they're new. When reusing them you tear that tape off and have to replace it with some type of sealant. So it's layered like this on the sides and top: roof or door window weatherstrip weatherstrip retainer with sticky back tape surround trim with foam backing frame I have a few detailed threads about it on CF |
