I've got the new carpet for the rear of my coupe ready to install, but I'm wondering if I should bother doing that flap piece that comes down behind the seats or not.

Its mainly the sides and cargo floor that are messed up and needing replaced, but I was wondering what all is involved in installing that piece that goes behind the seats, It looks like I would need to remove the center console, and if thats the case then I'll just be skipping that part lol.

Thanks guys!

Alright guys, I'm seriously having probs and would love some help.

I decided not to install that peice.

Sides are in, look great.

Bottom has the same problem as my old one, meaning that the holes where the threads come through for the fasteners are torn.

And now it looks like the damn thing is shrunk, when the area on the storage trays are aligned, and I pull up the back to the holes, there is about 4" of dead space under the carpet in the transition from the back to the floor.

I dunno wtf to do, I'm hot, tired, and pissed right now

I helped mine a little by pulling it as rearward as possible where the storage handles attach, just before it started looking stupid. You also might find the back of the carpet, where it goes up the back wall and slants over the tops of the fenders/speakers is cut wrong. Maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea to trim that up further to let the whole thing sit down more in the rear corner.

Well I took it to an upholstery shop to have someone look at it.

His idea was to use 2x4's and some plywood to make a wedge on the floor under the carpet to support the carpet where it makes the transition...

Needless to say, I didn't follow his advice, nor will I ever go back there.

Sorry to hear your having such a tough time with the carpet. What brand did you get? I got ACC through Willcox on ebay and it fits like a glove. If this is your case I would check with Willcox, they have great customer support. Maybe you got a piece that was cut wrong. If it's not ACC then all I can say is good luck.

Its an OEM peice that a forum member bought for his 86 and realized that it wouldn't fit, and I bought it from him cause I realized it was for mine.

Price was right, condition is great, still has the bowling green stickers on the back

Hell my original doesn't even fit well there.

Only way I see is cut the upper slants, sew a new edge on them and that may let it sit down further.

You don't wanna go too far though or maybe the carpet could buckle up when you open the storate compartments. Or maybe I'm talking out of my butt, either one.
