Check this out:

http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp ... x_price=15995&cardist=391

What I'm wondering is, are C5 prices falling because of the C6? Or are C5 prices falling due to gas/economy woes and people panicing?

My guess is a combination of the two.

I'd say it's a combo of both, too. But I am not complaining - maybe they'll come down enough that I can get my C5 vert!

BTW - that ad just doesn't look right. I wonder if it's a scam or something else. $14,000 for a 22,000 mile 2001 car? Seems too cheap. And look at how dirty the floor and engine compartment are. Just doesn't seem right. Maybe it's someone who needs to sell and doesn't know the value?

I agree with Matatk!
Something is not right there. A low mile 2001 C5 is worth more than $14K.

Car is probably a salvage, or a scam

Seemed off to me as well.

And I agree with Matt. Maybe I can afford a Z06 or a vert in a couple years. Assuming I start finding time to drive the one I have now.

I just emailed a guy about a super cheap vert last night. Turns out it was a scam. I was surprised to see it on autotrader. Oh well, probably used a stolen credit card to pay for it, too.

that has scam written all over it. There is no VIN listed in the ad. I would never buy a vehicle without running CARFAX on it first.

Remember this, the C5 was actually not that much more expensive new than the C4 it replaced. If anything, the base C5 was marginally cheaper than a 1996 C4 coupe. The C5 was that much easier to build that Cost of Goods Sold dropped.

With that said, my 1992 was about $40k new in 1992. I bought it 6 years later with 39k miles for $16,900.00. It was 8 years old.

All things being equal, a 1999-2001 C5 should be in about the same price point - $17~$20k would be about right.
