I thought that this would be an accomplishment worth posting. Today was Melina’s graduation from Cornell University. We are all extremely proud of her. She graduates with a bachelor’s degree in Agriculture and Life Sciences (Animal Science).

The ceremony today was really something to see. I have been to graduations before, but nothing of this magnitude. There were a couple thousand people graduating and I would estimate ten-thousand-plus, people attending the event.

Without getting into personal details, I will tell you that it was a real inspiration to see her graduate. Melina originally got off to a hard start and it didn’t look like she would be able to achieve her goal. But all the hard work she put in paid off; and its proof that if you want something bad enough you will make it happen no mater what obstacles stand in your way.

Today was also a very special day for the C4 Corvette. It has survived 2 Ithaca winters with Melina and lots of snow and salt, and it just crossed 100K miles. Thought out our ownership of the vehicle it has provided us with many miles of enjoyment, and most importantly, (overall) trouble free service getting her to and from college daily, and home to visit me (4 hours away) weekly. A little tribute to the excellent construction of this fine vehicle!

Huge congrats (and many hugs) to Melina for making the grade! That's a major accomplishment!

What does she plan to do with the degree?

She's looking for a job at the DMV? I don't think you'll like her very much after that. Those people are pretty rude.

Unfortunately it means another 4 years in college. Probably somewhere in another part of the country. It is something we will have to discuss in the future.

What kind of animals does she want to work with? One of my colleagues has her DVM and had a practice. She got real tired of the cats, dogs, bunnies, etc, but loved the iguanas and other exotics that came her way.

I think she is looking to do Cats, Dogs, and/or Horses. She is specifically interested in horses. Except I feel kind of like specializing in something like horses is going to limit our ability to be mobile. I don't ever "intend" on living in the city, but... you get the idea.

Still I am all for it... its been a dream of hers for years... and since I have given up on most of my dreams its nice to encourage someone else to follow theirs.... even more so when their dreams are within reach!

The only thing I did mention to her is the fact that the economy is in the process of going down the toilet. People may cut back on animal care. It’s possible that she may make alot more, and have much better job security working for, let’s say, the pharmaceutical industry.

We have a local Vet that Melina has worked for, for years and she is not even 40 and is already exhausted. I'm sure at times the job is very gratifying, but its def. break your SS work.
