Got the tank last night and she looks purty!

Forgot to get a new fuel strainer and no one around can get one(Napa, AA, AutoZone). SO I have to find one now until I can put it back together. Geez.

The old gas tank sprung a leak. Two nice rust holes on the bottom under the gas tank strap. It looks like it had been repaired before, but the tanks are cheap enough, I just went with a new one.

BTW, If you all remember, I found a bag of weed stuff up under the rear deck when I pulled out the tank.

Well, INSIDE the old tank I just found a key lock assembly. Awww the inhumanity!

Not yet...just lots of rust and spiders. This thing was found sitting for many years and I am trying to rescue it and bring it bac to life. I am sure once I start ripping out the interior, I will find lots of stuff.

Did you smoke the weed, sell it, or throw it out?

I flushed it.Besides, no telling how long it had been there and it smelled like gas. Probably not smart to light it up

Well....

Got the new tank in...what a pain in the azz!!!! Even though it was light it was a pain getting it centered just right and getting the straps around it correctly. The other thing was the bolts that hold the crossmember on(I removed it to get the tank out)go through the inside of the frame. SO, it was hard getting the crossmember back in place and putting the bolt in at the same time. But using a jack to hold it up, we finally got it.

Still don't have a strainer yet. The sending unit goes in through the bottom so I was able to install the tank w/o it. Wilcox is going to let me in Monday to get one even though they are closed.

Eh, no guts no glory!
It's great when you can get a new tank for an old car. I've dealt with repaired/restored ones before but would never have bothered if new ones were available for those cars.

You can get a reprinted factory assembly manual for that car, from any of the Vette parts suppliers. They're also on eBay all the time.
Mine has been invaluable. :thumbleft:
