Forgot to tell you guys my computer came back from the the store and they said it's not covered under the warranty. It will cost 140 dollars to wipe out the computer and reinstall the operating system or so THEY say. I am taking it to a normal shop and they are going to wipe all that vista off and install regular XP. Any ideas on why my operating system went corrupt?

No, but I gotta say, I've never heard of anyone having more trouble getting warranty service for stuff, ever!

You must have some kinda black cloud hangin' over your head, man!

Stinks....

I hope you get it all fixed up!

Why would you pay anything for that? I would just get the Vista install CD, and wipe your hard drive, scan it to mark any bad sectors, and reinstall vista.

How long was the warranty?

I forgot, is this an HP laptop? My last attempt with an HP ended with being unable to load XP, unable to load Vista Premium from CD, and unable to load Vista from the HP restore CD using two new hard drives! After calling HP they concluded that they would have to reload using a factory image. Won't sell it to me but I have to ship back the whole LT!

I have been successful with downgrading most Vista LT's except for HP's. Seems they have developed chipsets that do not have drivers for XP. For this reason I am turning away customers requesting XP downgrades with HP's.

Unless you can write drivers, I suggest that you write off that LT and pickup a good used Dell and move on. I can help you with your decision.

BTW be advised that XP SP3 has issues with some driver sets as well. I have only installed SP3 on one workstation and the ensuing problems inspired me to remove the SP.

It's the damn geek squad at best buy. They suck plain and simple. HP said they will not cover it because it is software related. It's in the shop today.

Yeah, you should never need to pay over $500 for a decent new laptop.

I've had good luck with Dell so far, on my 2nd one.

Check xpbargains.com for some coupon deals and discounts on various brands.

I got a Toshiba over the Holidays after my Compaq bit the big one... and emptied every contact out of my phone.

It has been very reliable so far.
