Hello all!

I plan to build a new engine soon.
It will be 383 stroker but I wan't engine that will rev to 7500 rpm
with ~7000rpm peak power. Hp goal is 550+ crank HP.
So far I have 2-bolt '90 L-98 vette block that I'll convert to 4-bolt splayed.
Also I have bought Callies Dragonslayer crank.

For heads, I'll probably go with AFR 227 Comp ported #1121
I still haven't decided on pistons and rods, but what bugs me most is what
kind of cam/lifters/springs to go with.

I would like to get most possible out of this engine and I'm leaning to
mechanical roller setup, but I'm worried about it's longetivity.

This engine/car is not my daily driver, but it's driven mostly on street with
a few road races a year. Now, I'm not too concerned about street drivability,
but I'd like this engine to last.

What are your opinions, suggestions.......

Crower sever duty lifters with the HIPPO option is the way to go on a lifter. 550chp should be easy to do with a solid and a good head, thinking the comp ported 210 can get you there.

Dont be afraid of the solids, for a high revving motor I would stay away from a hydraulic, just asking for problems IMO. Opinions will vary

Talk to tony@airflowresearch.com he will guide you in the right direction with your build and can take care of the cam also if youre ready to pull the trigger.

My vote is that an engine with a 3.75" stroke won't be a
durable, reliable powerplant if it is roadraced to 7,500
periodically.

Piston speed at 7,500 RPM for this combination is 4,690 feet
per minute. It is high to begin with and there is no margin
for mishaps. Miss a shift or overrun on a downshift and
see 7,800 RPM? - piston speed rises to nearly 4,900.

If you want durability and do not want to be frequently
inspecting and maintaining the engine, then aim for a
red line of 7,000 and have HP peak several hundred RPM
below this.

Otherwise, if 7,500 remains your goal, then choose a
shorter stroke to bring piston speeds down at this RPM.

it would be fun to take a Dart block and run a 350 crank in it for 377 cubes. Big bore to unshroud the valves and it would take revving to the moon all day.

Do you think that with 7000 rpm redline is still possible to achieve 550+ crank HP?

On a 383, yes. I should be doing that with my 350.
pm for details
