Well the headliner in my 91 has finally got the "sag" bad!! I've got new headliner fabric, and have read the many threads on how to put in the new one. My question is should I use contact cement or the 3M glue to secure the foam backer board back to the targa top? seems like many people are split on which holds better,so what say you all? Thanks,Doug

I used some Nashua spray, it fell down a year later.

Tried again with some heavy duty 3M spray, and it's good 3 years and counting.

Try and brush off any loose old glue first.

I replaced the fabric, cut it a little larger than necessary, and after gluing, tucked the excess under the roof frame with a credit card.

A couple of the cans I read said specifically that they were not meant for headliners.

If you don't want to do the job again any time soon, use something that is known to work. I think the 3M stuff has had good reviews. Just make sure it doesn't say that it is NOT for use in headliner applications. There may be a couple different formulations.

Probably because headliners get reallllllly hot in a closed up car. Maybe it would let off fumes and put you to sleep or give you slight brain damage.

Hey thanks, I have seen some of the 3M glue that says "not for automotive headliners". Don't want to have mine drop in my lap in a few months. Doug

Check out 3M high temp contact adhesive. I don't have the info in front of me but it's in some of the race catalogs. I've used it to attach flexible heatshields to fiberglass that's about 1 1/2 inches from headers.

I've also used it to put nomex (very close to headliner material) on some seats.
Just be sure to wait long enough for it to tack up. If it's still a little wet, it can bleed thru the material.

Well I got some headliner fabric and some 3M #76 glue.Got the old stuff off and reapplied the new fabric and it looks great!! Now to see how long the glue holds. Now that it's up I keep thinking I should have gone with the dark blue fabric instead of the black, oh well. Enjoy your weekend!! Doug
