Well, I've been lucky untill now with not having any brake problems on any ABS equipped cars. I've got to change the M/C on a 1994 Buick LeSabre. Low mileage car but it is leaking fluid at the rear. Any tips, tricks,or "don't do this" advice concerning bleeding the brakes. I plan to bench bleed the new M/C prior to install as I always do this.

Thanks
Joel

If air gets into the proportioning valve body, you will need a scan tool to disable the ABS for bleeding.

Otherwise, you cannot 'push' air down the line to the bleed nipple. ABS releases pressure that would move the entrapped air down the line.

Hey Blade, yea that was what I'm concerned about. Other that quickly capping off the lines is there anything else that can be done to prevent the air in valve problem. Now this car is OBDI if that matters. I assume scan tool refers only to the Tech I. Since this car is the "mix & match" as I call it, OBDI with OBDII diag. port, I have no way of using my trusty Actron scanner.

after you bench bleed the master mount it back on the car open the bleeders and let it gravity bleed till fluid comes out all four bleeders close them up and bleed them one at a time the normal way

Thanks crash, this is about what I was going to do. Only one way to find out, just do it. Who knows, I might get lucky. It'll be the first of next week before I can get to it. I'll report back later with results.

Thanks
Joel

You can try it, but I think the way the valves are in the proportioning valve body, it won't gravity feed, or force feed either.

Well, it looks like I might have gotten lucky on this. Finally got around to replacing M/C and bleeding system, brakes feel good with a firm pedal.

Good to hear

BTW

94 Corvettes have a bleeder screw on the ABS itself

95 Corvettes don't if that helps.
