My '88 has a separate runner cast into the plenum for the idle air to pass thru to the base intake. If I eliminate this runner and let it get it's idle air thru the tubes from the plenum, will this cause problems at idle or other
times of operation? As always, any assistance is appreciated. |

Don't believe so.
The later models didn't have the idle air direct into the base Most of the aftermarket TB are open to the plenum and don't seal up to that runner. |

Miniram's don't have that passage and have trouble getting a steady idle. When I did my singleplane swap I made sure the IAC passage was made into the adapter. If you go on thirdgen.org, and search for miniram + iac you'll find lots of data on the subject, including people retrofitting that passage to their minirams. -- Joe |

vettoz; So if I open the IAC port behind the throttle blades to the main plenum you think I'll be ok? anesthes; If I get what you're saying, the engine won't idle properly with the idle port open behind the TB? OR are you saying your MR didn't idle right because there was no idle passage there to begin with? Sorry for the confusion guys, but I tend to read things TOO literally. Thanks again. |

anesthes wrote: Joe , please explain. OP is talking about the early TPI that has the idle air fed directly into each port in the base, not to the rear of the TB as with the later setups. http://www.hotrodlane.cc/Streetstories/choosingtpi2.htm |
