My stock 91 auto is ill!! Has been running great(daily driver) with 150k until yesterday when getting off work I get in to start the car, turn the key and hear a grinding noise from down near the starter.Noise last for 1 sec.then seem to bind, then nothing. This "grinding" almost is a sound of metal on metal "crunch". Got home late due to tow, and now back at work so haven't had a chance to look. Any thoughts?? Thanks,Doug

Well, sounds like your starter is fine......

Is there 150K on the rebuilt motor or on the car?

Too bad that a 4 yr old motor is toast. I hate to see you part it out. Have you considered buying a used motor and installing it yourself? Could be a fun learning experience.

Or you could let all us motorheads talk you into building it up into a serious street machine.

Brian, big OUCH!!

Dan, 150xx on the car.I've thought about buying a used motor to rebuild and learn from doing it but, then the extra cost, down time,I just don't know. Like most of us I've got more into this car than it's worth, and maybe it's time to move up in years.I've got to have another Vette!! Doug

What cosmetic condition is your 91 in? Motors are just another part albeit a big part. A Crate motor installed locally would minimize down time. What your going to lose plus what your going to spend might make repowering more inviting. Check out your local yellow pages for engine rebuilders and get a price for repair/replacement too.
