Can kick some serious ass. Over 300 hp from that little booger. Dayum, my 90 vette can't even keep up with the new 6 cylinder cars. Well, it is 20 years old ........ That's gotta count for something. ................ Or not .....

6 cyl and about 304 hp, but 14.7 in the 1/4 mile just don't compute. You will kick it's ass. But the 8 cyl model will kick some serious ass.

Saw my first one today on the way to Denver. Silver with black or dark grey stripes. A very sharp combo! But overall, it looks like a characture of itself.

Cool, but not for me.

I'd still like to see one close up, and drive a V8 variant, just for fun.

your right chris. ill take my brothers 69 ss/rs z28. he is the 2nd owner and has had since he 18 and hes 51 now. he restored it twice and it still runs like a bat out of hell. he took the fact 4:88s out of it and put in some highway gears 4:56s.

I guess 4.56's would be a highway gear compared with 4.88s...

I have driven the V6 and its no slouch, but....

Its a V6 and does not in any way feel near as fast as my 300hp LT1 did when it was stock. I assure you a 300hp Vette will smoke the V6 Camaro. The torque and hp curve is different as is the weight of the car. However it does get like 27 mpg or something like that.

I have not driven the SS/RS yet but will probably get an opportunity soon.

I repeat myself... the new Camaro weighs in at 3800 lbs... If it weighed 2800 lbs, think of the press... lighter, faster, and better MPGs.

The damned thing would run like a raped ape with the V6 and would get over 30 MPG highway.

THAT is the problem with the Camaro.

Well, I've got 230 hp and 3200 lbs.

I wouldn't expect to pass that sucker if he had the pedal to the floorboard.

At least until we hit turn 1.

Anyhow, there isn't any other 4-seater sedan on the road that weighs less than the Camaro, so the weight doesn't surprise me.

Yea, well... The pundits like us to believe that the big assed cars from the 1960s were these overweight pigs.

Sure, they were pigs, but they were not that overweight.

A 1957 Chevy, for example, was 3400lbs or so.

Vettes have hovered around 3200 for eons, now. They went on a major diet in the late 70s which really saved weight. Aluminum diff, composite leaf spring... they were getting porky before that.

A 1965 Caddy Deville was 4500lbs. That's the weight of a new mid-sized SUV.

A 1969 Camaro, V8, coupe... 3050 lbs.

How about a Buick... 1967 225... a real boat... at ~4200 lbs.

These weights come from the "Encyclopedia of American Cars."

The added weight does come from safety features... these crash bars and airbags do add weight... but the rest comes from creature comforts.

With the additions of aluminum and carbon fibre, there is really no excuse... except cutting costs and doing the job cheaply.
