Here are five reasons why Chrysler came back:

* Lee Iaccoca. Chrysler had available a replacement CEO, Iaccoca, whose reputation for success convinced everyone that he could fix the company;

* Shared sacrifice. All of Chrysler stakeholders -- including unions, shareholders, banks, and dealers -- were willing to sacrifice for the survival of the company;

* New car that met market needs. Chrysler was ready to launch a new front-wheel drive fuel-efficient car that consumers would be wiling to buy;

* Realistic plan. Chrysler had a well thought-out operating plan to survive the crisis; and

* Bank loans. Banks agreed to provide financing to Chrysler if the government would guarantee the loans.

And if ever there was a "socialist" car built in America, the K Car was it. I thought they were horrible, but if they brought back the company to a point where they could eventually offer up something like a Viper, then maybe a couple boring, egg-shaped electric cars is just what we need for a few years.

Hopefully I don't have to buy one.

Yup. The Tesla is pretty cool. I would have to put realistic V8 engine sounds on a CD, and play it while I drove it though.

I could get used to the electric motor sound...

But I'd want to use one of these controllers for the throttle:

Oh yeah! Good times!

I'd want a corner worker handy to put me back on the track though!
