you guys will have to check the "other cars" section in a few days, i've been busy.

have to work a little today and will be sitting down with my realtor so he knows what i'm in search of(bank owned repo that needs lots of work), and then back out to the garage for more welding. i burned more than a whole roll of mig wire yesterday.

i like cop cars - but you guys could probably tell from my ex CPD interceptor

that article is BS though, i hear most all the police chargers are v6's straight from the mouths of police officers. i've yet to see a hemi car. i wouldnt mind one though, they look badass in black with black wheels and pushbar.

it's a porsche 914?

that or the engine is way the hell too far forward or fake.

almost looks like if the engine is real that there is a th425 FWD caddy/olds transaxle in there since it is set so far forward - they had a buttload of room between engine and firewall

i'm with him - pullapart and the internet. while i'm there pulling stuff for myself i have an eye out for stuff that can be resold for at least 2x what i pay for it. all intakes $23? so while there pull some PI ford ones and LT1 ones. all transmissions $43 - so i took half an hour and pulled a 4L80-E from a suburban.

i only fund the cars with car money, which is separate from what i make working. car money comes from parts deals, buying cars for parts and selling off the rest, and i toss my scrap into the car money as well, i get lots of copper, brass, and aluminum scrap in my line of work.

however, if the work truck needs fixed it comes out of my company money, and if i need a new daily driver or it needs snow tires or something it comes out of the $ i make working.

dragged the 40's new chassis into the garage and cut the old camaro body off it. 2x3 tube frames are a beautiful thing when you are used to working with stock gm stuff.

cold cold cold cold.

my dog love it outside, alaskan malamutes are built for this crap, i'm not. my ford started and got me home this morning, which is a good thing. it didn't want to start right away, it hates the cold too.

i was going to go out and de-body the new chassis for my 40 but - no freaking way. too cold out. it can wait till saturday.

years ago before i bought it from my dad...

alternator was dead, killed the battery in process. he was always yelling at me for charging batteries in the garage, creating harmful gasses and whatnot. in my infinite hate of having to take the fender panel off to get the battery out, i sat on the sill, put it in neutral, and started pushing back with me leg.

one awful crunch noise later i realized i did not have the door closed enough to clear the door opening, and wiped out the edge. he repaired it decently but it broke the skin and the inner door edge so last year i finally found a good door with no scratches or nicks in the right color that actually is a very good match to the original paint.

i bought one from pr0zac becuase i wanted to do the swap. then i started figuring in changing the distributor, harness for that, i don't like the remote thermostat housing idea one bit - so i bought a superram. i had to buy 1 2/3 of them to get good parts but in the end i've always wanted one.

Dale,

if you are interested at an up close uninstalled look at the superram before you commit to one i've got one on the shelf. 1k sounds fair, i've got about that much in mine after buying new gaskets. i go back and forth between sell the L98 and parts i've got for it and go LSx or keep it simple and mod what is there, it is a tough decision.

clearance is clearance. i've got 1/16" from caliper to rim on my vic's winter wheels - no issues.

after some reading elsewhere that C6 Z51 brakes fit under 17" A mold wheels, i had my uncle at the dealership order me the Z51 abutments. we'll try it when i get home from florida.

i already have the calipers and adapter brackets and c5 abutments. if the caliper will clear i'll order rotors and make sure it will have its full range of motion with pads/rotors installed..

what's wrong with hedman elite headers?

http://store.summitracing.com/partdet ... 94839039+115&autoview=sku

on the 91, my new intake/heads will choke on factory manifolds let alone if i put a cam in while i've got it apart(dumb not to, right?)

i see plastered all over the other place headers that are $700+ - TPIs, hooker super comps, and some other fancy crap i can't afford.

so what is wrong with the above #68448 hedman elite headers. 3/8" flanges, 14ga tubes, ceramic coated, and under $345 since summit sent me a $50 off $200 or more purchase coupon. plus they are my local speed shop so no shipping charges for me.

are people just snobs and need to spend $800 for headers to make their corvette parts purchasing experience complete?

are there fitment issues?

i'm getting collector vehicle plates this year which in ohio exempt me from emissions testing so any lack of whatever will not hurt me and i'm deleting the AIR injection anyway because the stupid lifetime reman pump i bought goes bad and needs replaced every year.

dale,

sorry to hear, roofing sucks. my 25 year warranty shingles are failing at 10 years and i have to do a complete tearoff/rot fix/reroof in the spring because of it.

call these guys for an estimate, they are licensed/bonded/insured and i've sent several of my customers to them and they always do great work

http://www.gridironguys.net/

my day is going to consist of going to lowe's to get some tile, coming home and finishing up the rebuild of the 96 astro(y pipe, belt, fan, and shroud are all i have to hook up i think, after having the engine about down to a bare block/tranny out in the van) - never buy an astro that needs engine work because the van has to come up off the frame to get it out or the block needs stripped and pulled through the interior, neither of which i was going to do so i put in a new crank, 2 rods, heads, timing set, and all new gaskets - in the van. i've been working on it off and on for a year and finally it's time to get it done and get the vette in for go-fast mods.

my problem is she wants her own toy - and she'll kill herself if i built her a car the way i build my own.

free block/crank/rods from 95 pickup
machine work to go .030, cut the grooves out of the crank cost $750 including pistons, rings, and bearings
used GMPP vortec heads and RPM vortec intake $400
$35 GMPP hydraulic roller takeout from crate engine
used/tested GM roller lifters and parts $100
new stock timing set $20
M55 pump and hardened shaft $20
$14 rebuild in a free 30 year old holley
$40 headers

under $1500 to go 13's in a 55 year old 4 door brick with a 2.73 open rear is priceless.

i am a fan of gently used parts at 50% or so off new prices instead of slapping money down on summit's cashier counter.

that one never gets old.

someone almost took me out last night, i was going along fine when a car(fwd wimpala) pulled out from a side street to go opposite my direction, they punched it and started coming straight at me. i had to cut one way to get the front to miss them, then cut back and punch it to get the back of my vic to miss them, i looked out my door and their grille was in my face. after i got straightened out i looked in the mirror and they were going on their merry way, the wrong way in the lane i was in. i'm not sure if they were that bad at driving with snowy roads or drunk because it wasnt that bad out.

RWD saved my ass, if i were in a FWD car i'd have gotten plowed.

i was just out in the snow doing some drifting in the crown vic.

i've determined my 454 dually is a much better drift platform, since i had some serious fun friday

definitely interesting to watch and can respect the car control, but racing is either timed or head to head with a finish line, not judges.

for my post 100:

can i have about 600hp now?

i'm putting on a new intake manifold and some c5 brakes over winter - coupled with my black GS wheels and eliminating the air pump that should net me close right? those damn air pumps cause so much drag.

100% on the chinese no QC problem - my buddy is an engineer and he says that when they finally deliver the right prototype(after usually sending 3 or 6 wrong ones) they stay in spec for a couple months until the machines start wearing out and they keep pumping them out and the parts get farther and farther away from the original specs.

to include:

pizza
ribs
burgers(turkey)
salads
fruit roll-ups
donuts
granola bars
cereal
oatmeal

sundays i get up and make breakfast for my girlfriend all nice like - something to the tune of eggs/bacon/toast/hash browns or pancakes/sausage or something else good.

this one is a slab house - below grade. they dig out around it every year to try to keep it dry.

getting ready for work, have to go put in a laundry tub where there is no plumbing for one in a house that's one big afterthought and needs bulldozed, and have to stop at the post orifice and mail out a money order for some play parts for the vette.

breakfast = one prilosec OTC and whatever food is on the front seat of my truck in my lunch bag from yesterday. one bonus to living in cleveland in the winter is i don't need a refrigerator for my lunches.

it's cold

it was blizzardy

people are driving like they've never seen snow before - in freaking cleveland

on my way home there were cars everywhere sliding, in ditches, missing turns. apparently there was a ton of ice under the snow on the roads and people dont know how to drive slow. i came up over a hill to see 6 cars trying to get up it, sliding down it, sideways across the whole road. i let them all get in their lane and coasted by and going up the other side i was behind a 4x4 canyon who was going up sideways since foot planted is the only way some people understand snow driving when you aren't moving as quick as you want to.

one moron had his tahoe stopped in a nasty icy intersection and he was brushing snow off his hood - in prime "if someone goes 1mph too fast through this turn you get pinned between two cars dumbass" position.

so i got home and hooked up the plow on my plow truck and a brake line blew out. i capped off the rear line on the m/c till i get a warm day because the truck won't go on the road all winter except to go half a mile to the gas station once or twice.

I'm in the same boat Pete, i hunted down a perfect drivers door for mine and wish i could get a passenger side rear quarter in the right color so i could hold off paint for a year or 5. the repair on the quarter looked good for a while but gets more obvious every spring, and even used some BS filler supposedly made for working with SMC.

that was an SRT-4 supposedly with nitrous and slicks and all kinds of other stuff with a guy behind the wheel that can only manage a 13.4 - i heard him tell people it was his first time at the track and then i talked to other people that say he's there all the time and can't drive for crap. his fronts were aired so low that i was afraid to be next to him, but D42 has zero tech, they dont even ask for your license. the guy at the line asked if i had a seatbelt and that was it.

not too much done, the above suspension stuff, 355 with vortec heads and a very very mild gmpp roller cam, full 2.25" duals w/ h pipe and $15 summit turbos, 4 link has panhard bar and all QA1 5/8 rod ends, tilt steering and i made the column with flaming river joints and hacked up gm steering shafts. it has a sumped 2nd gen camaro gas tank with a mallory comp 110 fuel pump, howe radiator, electric fans, power steering and brakes. not much left original except the body and frame rails and the torn up seats i got out of another belair that a dude gave to me after he pulled it out of a junkyard for the rare power options it had. and 17x8 cragars all around. 4 wheel discs, etc...

dont need it, built my own chassis using only the cleaned up original frame rails, the rest is new from crossmembers out. tubular everything in front w/ discs and rack&pinion and corvette sway bar and 4 link w/ panhard bar and coil overs and discs out back.

the LS stuff i have is going in my truck but thats a whole other deal to get into.

I'm excited and hope great things can be accomplished and that the government might be able to act together instead of like a bunch of dolts arguing back and forth about steroids in baseball and all the other BS that they have had no business getting into.

the government as a whole, both sides of the coin, red and blue alike, have let me down countless times.

Clinton left with what, $3 trillion surplus

Bush is leaving with $11 trillion debt

who were they spending like?

i watched McCain's concession speech, which was a very good one. but the people in the crowd who booed when he mentioned Obama disgusted me - they'll be the ones trying to drive a wedge between us instead of bring the parties together to fix what is broken. I didn't hear any jeers or boos when Obama mentioned he got a call from McCain.

once upon a time i rebuilt the original 125hp six. it was so painfully slow, the 4 wheel drums didnt stop for crap and the kingpin front end liked to wander all over the place. the original engine now resides in a "rat rod" (i hate that term) 54 chevy pickup that belongs to a HAMB member in illinois.
