http://store.summitracing.com/partdet ... 94839039+115&autoview=sku

on the 91, my new intake/heads will choke on factory manifolds let alone if i put a cam in while i've got it apart(dumb not to, right?)

i see plastered all over the other place headers that are $700+ - TPIs, hooker super comps, and some other fancy crap i can't afford.

so what is wrong with the above #68448 hedman elite headers. 3/8" flanges, 14ga tubes, ceramic coated, and under $345 since summit sent me a $50 off $200 or more purchase coupon. plus they are my local speed shop so no shipping charges for me.

are people just snobs and need to spend $800 for headers to make their corvette parts purchasing experience complete?

are there fitment issues?

i'm getting collector vehicle plates this year which in ohio exempt me from emissions testing so any lack of whatever will not hurt me and i'm deleting the AIR injection anyway because the stupid lifetime reman pump i bought goes bad and needs replaced every year.

Sounds like a decent header and if it has the ball flanges on it imo thats a plus.

They're fine. It's the cheapie Hedman's I'd recommend avoiding, mainly due to the thin flanges. Plug access is a bit tighter on a couple of plugs compared to other headers I've worked with on these cars, but it's not a killer. And as Ron said, the ball flanges are great. Changing to them was the best thing Hedman ever did.

The Elites are a good hedder, from all accounts. The only difference is that they are 1-5/8" vs 1-3/4" of the high priced hedders. Only makes a difference if you are building a very high performance engine.

Hey Andy, were did you find McJack's? I never heard of them. Do you know anyone who is running a set?

I looked at the McJacks page the design look different than mine. Wonder if they fit better or worse or if that was just an example.

Has anyone installed any of these?

Someone correct me if Im wrong, but wasn't Hedman the one that you had to change your alternator bracket to make it fit? WW

Does the stock rear alternator bracket fit any of the higher priced long tubes?

If I do headers, the elites are my first choice. They crowd the fuel lines a bit, and might require some heat tape there, but I can't recall any other criticism.

If I was building my own header itd have bosses welded over the bolt holes similar to the factory header. This makes the bolts easy to get to, not loosen as much, and allows all the factory brackets to fit. Only one company does this.

The hookers come with spacers so the bracket will fit. They end up dimensionally the same as the stock manifolds. I think I still have them in a bag somewhere. I made my accessory brackets.

For a near stock car the smaller primary size is fine. You CA boys can't tinker as much as we can. If you were building something in the 400hp range you would want a primary size that supports it.

SLP does it, at least on the fbody headers I used to buy..

If you hit some of the other forums you will get 100 reasons why you should spend $1000 or more.

I ran the so called "cheapo" headman street headers on my 89 C4. They were ceramic coated and they were amazing. Drastic SOTP increase on the car immidiately after installation and removing all the AIR junk. They never really rusted, and the ball flange made installation and removal of exhaust components extremely simple. Not to mention it never leaked.

Just use a high quality set of gaskets, tighten to spec, drive car for a couple hundred miles, tighten to spec, drive a couple of hundred miles, tighten slightly over spec, and you will never have a leak.

i bought EM's but have seen headmans. Em's went in easy and i couldn't stand buying headers that werent coated and have them be the ugliest thing in the engine bay. i had the money to do it and got mine on a group buy which sweetened the deal. but as far as the hedmans go they seem to fit an auto fine.. it was an 86. i didn't install them so i couldnt' tell you anything about that but did a bunch of other work on the motor. it will take some modding for any header install. the only problem is he had iron sportsman II heads and they were straight plug. be sure to stick with angle plug heads then you are set.
