I run it once a week, most of the time. But I'll admit, it's gone a week and a half at times. I like to take it to golf league, 50 mile round trip. But if it rains, no trip.

I'll test it, but would new injectors be a reasonable thing regardless, or is that throwing parts at a non problem?

Come to think of it, it sits more over the winter, and this doesn't happen.

The oil is more of a dark brown, not chocolate milk brown. We took a quart out, and it smelled of gas to me. Not much smoke out the exhaust, just a small puff at startup, as it's always been. Head gaskets were done 2 years ago. The car runs well, and isn't overheating.

This could have been a condition that accumulated over time. I haven't driven the car as much this year, I won't drive it to work due to being moved to a building in a bad neighborhood. So, I haven't check the oil as often as I should have.

My big concern is rings. If it's not rings, and it's an injector, that's actually a relief. It's old, and putting a new set of injectors in is not unreasonable.

When it leaked, did it collect in the crankcase?

Check the oil in my 87, and it was over full. Drained a quart, and it had a smell of gas. The car runs good, the only thing I've noticed is the gas mileage is down from 17 to about 15.5mpg.

Leaky injector?

Well, I am old. Beats the alternative!

I read some of the article. What I find distressing is the author seems to say, these kids don't have any idea about anything that happened before 1992.

If that's the case, it's very sad, and a little distressing. Make the reference to something old, let the kids look it up on their blackberry!

We seem to be going out of our way to groom our kids to be idiots.

In Ohio, if you have a lein on the car, you get a memorandum title.

It says the car is in your name, and identifies the lein holder.

I'm still looking for a car for my son, so I'm wading through a bunch of CL ads. This one is amazing.

The summary for those who don't want to click:

***I'm going to jail, I only have the memorandum title, serious buyers only!***

Ok, so the guy cheats you, what are you going to do, send him to jail?!

That's only for people who have no equity. Sadly, if you're underwater on your mortgage, it may make good financial sense to quit paying it.

These are interesting times.

I'm no expert. Research it. But I've read about people modifying their HSR to make it fit under a standard hood.

From Wiki:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_Security_(United_States)

"Medicare and Medicaid were added in 1965 by the Social Security Act of 1965, part of President Lyndon B. Johnson's "Great Society" program. Social Security was changed to withdraw funds from the independent "Trust Fund" and put it into the General Fund for additional congressional revenue."

You can argue the challenges of the two presidencies are different, that's fine. I would say that an attack on our soil that killed thousands, and destroyed two major buildings in the heart of our financial sector, at at time when our economy was failing, is, to use Joe Biden's words: "A big f'ing deal".

Either way, Obama signed up for the job. No, he paid big money to get the job. He wanted it, it's his. I'm ex military, and I believe in the chain of command. It's Obama's watch, if it's not going well, it's his fault. If things turn around he gets the credit. I don't see much credit coming Mr. Obama's way anytime soon.

Seems to me, it used to be different, and better. Didn't they used to give 2 teams a car and some money and have them build the best car they could and race? The winner kept their car.

They put a lot of WWF into what their doing now, but it's a little too contrived for me.

But I did watch to the end. So it wasn't all bad.

An unfunded entitlement is a bill you don't have money to pay. Social Security is an unfunded entitlement at this point. Sure they take our money, but the withholding pays only a fraction of the outgoing benefits. Why? They rolled Social Security into the general fund and also expanded the benefits. If you think an unfunded entitlement is not harmful, have the government quit paying Social Security and see what happens.

I've heard in various places, that the financial reform, 2500 pages of it, will not be implemented totally for as far out as 10 years. Why? No one knows what all is in it. There is nothing as scary to business as uncertainty. Unemployment is very high, and shows no signs of recovering. Businesses don't hire when they don't know what is coming at them next.

In Bush's first term, he had to deal with an economy that had begun to falter after the .com bubble burst, and 9/11. Mr. Bush was cut no slack in the presidential race of 2004. I just say, apply the same standards to Mr. Obama. He's the man in charge, it's his watch, hold him accountable.

If you think that adding unfunded entitlements, increasing the debt and deficit more than double that of a free spending predecessor is not measurable at all, we aren't watching the same game.

I watched pinks all out last night for the first time in a long time. There was an LS powered s-10 in the mix. The s-10's opponent go the jump on him, but the s-10 roared back and won... so I thought.

They said the s-10 went too fast? Made up 0.4 and they booted them.

What's that all about? I thought it was "all out"?

It will not replace the gas car for a while... but as a city car, I am all for it.

I will be blunt. If every damned soccer mom and her giant SUV vanished off the LA Freeways, I would not be sad. I hate it... these things getting 10mpg, being driven by some 100lb rich bitch with a brat in the back. WHY???? Status is one thing, but this just annoys the hell out of me.

As was said in other posts, this is shifting the point of energy consumption. Electricity doesn't come from lightning bugs. In general, it comes from smelly coal burning plants. I'm not sure cars like the Volt are the answer. But, I'm not sure they're not the answer. At $41k, it's not the answer for me, however, I suspect that a progressive government will limit my options.

As for the why of soccer moms and the huge SUVs, the answer is simple, in a crash, they win, you lose. Status might be part of it, but the bottom line for most of them is, they want a huge vehicle that's a safe as possible. And if safe means they have to crush you, well, sorry about your luck. It's not pretty, but I firmly believe that's the major reason behind most SUV purchases.

Pewter is the guy that perma banned me. We exchanged a few emails on my way out. I don't know the man personally, but my impression of him based on his replies, (which were laced with sarcasm and condescention), is that he's a raging a-hole.

Don't know how the C5 and C6 sections are doing at CF, but I can tell you, the C4 section is on a not so slow march to suck-ville.

Not a big deal, but I thought it was kind of cool. I went to our local cruise in last night, (it's every Monday). I was a little late, so they directed me down to a lower level off the main area. There were just a few cars on that level when I got there. I pulled up next to a 30 Ford Coupe, very cool car. A few others were a like showroom new 69 Chevelle, a 70 Skylark, and another Chevelle.

I opened the hood, and went out to explore. When I came back and was ready to leave, 3 other C4s had pulled up and parked around me. There was some guy taking pics of the C4s, and got one of me as I was pulling away. The owners of the other C4s were all out looking around, so I didn't talk to them, but it was one of those little things that's pretty cool.

It's laughable. The Hot Rod magazine guy is trolling for wheels "to save a buck". But they destroy that Vette. Some of the parts they sawsall'ed off could have been removed and sold.

Eh, one less C4 means mine is a little more rare.

I know the later C4s have 2 cooling fans. Seems like that would be nice if only for redundancy. I have an 87, it has one fan. What would it take to put the 2 fan configuration into an 87?

He doesn't go that far. The commute is 10 miles each way. So economy is nice but not critical. I haven't been looking at VWs because I heard their quality had really fallen off, and they are expensive to repair.

And here I go hijacking my own thread. My daugher's fiance brought by a car he's thinking of buying. A 2011 Hyundai Sonata 6 speed. Holy cow is that thing nice.

No, it won't be a C4!

I have $8k to spend, he needs a car to get him to work and school, (college). I've been looking at the used Corollas, Sentras, Civics and Accents. I'd consider a Cavalier, Sunfire or Focus.

I see a lot of Saturn ION's and a bunch of Cobalts. I've been told the Cobalts are crap. Not sure about the ION?

Any words of wisdom for me?

Photobucket seems to be following youtube's model. At first both were simple, fast and very useful. Now both are big, bloated, slow, and barely useful.

It should be called youslow... both in terms of speed, and the capabilities of many of the posters.

There's no better place to ask simple questions than here. You won't be mocked, you won't start a p*ssing match between members about the answer. It seems to me that this site, more than any other I've been to, understands there are different kinds of Vette owners with different goals. The racers don't rag on the waxers, etc.

Me, I'm more of a waxer, and if I didn't ask simple questions, I'd never post. Look at my post count, a fair number of simple ones in there! Even though I don't do a lot of my own mechanical work, it's good to know exactly what's going on. In fact, answers here can often assist your mechanic, if he's open to it like mine is.

Thanks guys. My brother is less of a mechanic than I am, (meaning he has no clue).

I did a little ebay and followed BillH's link. Seems the price isn't out of line, but Andy's point about the low miles being a potential issue not a plus is well taken.

I'm going to advise him to pass on this one. If he really wants one, a 50k - 80k mile car would be more in line with what he wants.

My brother found a C3 that interests him. 1975 auto silver on silver with 11,200 miles on it. He says it's perfect, with 2 non stock items. It has new wheels and tires, and side pipes. The owner told him he paid $10k for it a year ago, but he wants $16k for it now. I thought $10k would be what it's worth.

Any opinions on what this thing is worth?

Liberal elites want US to keep THEIR planet clean. The elites can do as they please, as long as they get the little people to conserve.

Global warming is a religion. No amount of information will dissuade the true believers.

I went to the Lloyd's mats site, and they only sell to dealers. No contact information for Lloyd's mats. Just links to websites that sold Lloyd's mats. So I tried a few places:
Mid America
Ecklers
Ebay
Corvette Central

CC had the lowest price, (no, not Central Coaster). $99 for a pair. Not much was on ebay. So I called CC and asked if their mats had the velcro strip. They said they do, so I ordered a pair. I'll let you know if they lied or not.

Thanks.

I was kind of luke warm to white when I bought it. It's really grown on me. I'd buy another white/red anytime. White/red has a kind of classic look to it.

I've often listed that as an advantage of having a C4. As far as I'm concerned almost any old car is cool. Keeping an old car nice requires serious effort. That's why when people go nuts about C4's not being as fast as C5's or C6's, I think they miss the point.

A new C6 is just a new car. A very, very cool new car, but a new car. It hasn't acquired it's soul yet.

Yeah, I'm going for the big time mods.

The Mrs wants to buy me floor mats for our anniversary. I want a set that has the velcro strip like the OEM mats, but with the C4 logo. I know Lloyds mats has the look, but do they have the strip?
Where's the best place to get them? Is there a guru vendor that sells them for a good price?

Thanks.

I know I'm almost breaking a rule by not having pics!
It's raining today, I'll try to get some tomorrow.

I'm pretty fortunate with this guy. I think he gets a little kick out of helping me. Not sure if it's because he likes cars, or because he likes seeing someone slowly fix theirs up. He did say it looks better every time I bring it back!

It's amazing how that little stuff sticks out. It's a lot like home repair. I've done some jobs where there were minor flaws. The only way you could see them is if you looked for them. But everytime I would walk in the room, that flaw would jump out at me.

Same with those rockers and sweeps. It's like they were lit up with flashing lights.

I know I'm a bit crazy, but I dare say, most C4 owners are, in one way or another.
