Good morning, all and have a good time, Tom.

Cold and gray in the Philadelphia area today.

Working from home while carting my parents around to their medical appointments today.

Al Unser Sr. (Big Al) passed yesterday at age 82 after a long fight with cancer. He was a towering figure at the Indy 500—won four times, 2nd three times, 3rd four times, and seemingly always in the hunt. He also won in just about everything: Colt/Ford, Lola/Cosworth, March/Cosworth. A transitional driver, he could obviously adapt—the Lola/Ford he finished 2nd in in 1967 barely resembled the Lola/Buick he finished 3rd in in 1992.

This is the Al I remember—from the 1984 Indy 500.

"At dawn we slept"

The 45th anniversary of Pearl Harbor occurred when I was in the Navy. At that point, it was still a visceral memory, and there was an evident effort to make sure that "never again" would this happen.

Now, eighty years.

Lots of depressing eighty year anniversaries coming up for USN folks. Won't be in the clear until about May 2022.

Good morning, all.

Just back from my first in-person conference in almost two years. It was … worthwhile.

Tom, I totally agree about YouTube repair videos—one of the true glories of the internet.

Recently, I've been working on moving various elderly photo collections from various sources into the more modern Flickr Pro account. Today, I moved many of the photos from our first big trip in Grace. These are actually photos from the canceled 2nd Edition of A 21st Century Road Trip, many of them recently remastered. All originally taken with a Nikon D70 in April 2005.

NEAT PICTURES, JOHN. WHAT WAS THAT WARSHIP?

Gris, that's the Little Rock—an interesting and transitional ship with a fairly long career. Built in Philadelphia during World War Two as a classic (all-gun) Cleveland-class light cruiser (12 six-inch guns/12 five-inch guns). Converted in the late 1950s to a Galveston-class missile cruiser/command ship, losing all the large guns aft and one six-inch turret forward and adding a dual Talos missile launcher and a far larger bridge. The Little Rock was in commission until 1976 and became a museum ship in 1979.

Full USN disclosure requires me to acknowledge that the Talos was not the Navy's greatest SAM.

Comps are hard to find because of the high mileage—most early C4s on BaT are in the 5,000 to 25,000 mile range. I think the folks at BaT were very happy that I was willing to sell the car at no reserve, and I'm not sure they would have listed us otherwise.

Good afternoon, all.

A scary evening yesterday in the Philadelphia area. A tornado system went right over our town, but chose not to touch down. It did touch down about 10 miles away, near the old Willow Grove Naval Air Station. Other tornados generated by Ida hit Annapolis, but missed the Naval Academy.

Today—of course—it's beautiful. There's still a lot of flooding, with the Schuylkill River's being classified as major and several interstates underwater. Thee locaaal water plant is also offline.

Meanwhile, the auction of the 1985 continues.
