Good Morning I hope everyone is enjoying this beautiful day. Rainy finally a break in the heat. Taking a break its 9 am and started work at 5 am. We have this incredilbe machine that does some testing its a Gen Probe, takes away variables that can tant a sample. Its made in San Diego, I train newbes on this bad boy. It never complains, doesn't need a day off and cuts our critical output data in half.
Matt I like your picture of the SEAls, I don't think they are in the same league. They meet in Indy just to hang out and catchup. Dad never talks about "things" SEALs did. He's really a great guy! slow to get angry, patient, and not too be screwed with once po'ed. It will be interesting to see how he handles retirement next year! I think politics and people in conrol that have never taught pushes his buttons, not a good combination. He will probably teach welding classes at night once retired. Anyway long day a head of me, 10 to 12 hour day kick my butt now and then.
I hope the Guru's don't get upset with me about posting on Vette related threads! I can see why dad likes this forum it becomes addictive. I have dads laptop. I'm surrounded by Dell desktop and laptops. Its easy to find dads old Gateway. Talk to you guys later. Erin

Don I'm sorry your friend has gone through this. Scalp lacerations look deep with the use of steel staples. I pray his recovery is speedy and painfree. Erin

When you think about it I'm amazed our braking systems work as well as they do! being that brake fluid absorbs moisture and will begin eating away at rubber seals ina relatively short period of time. Usually the only time we check the system is when we change brakes. I try to purge my vehicles systems every other year. After writing that my pickup has gone 3 years.

Yea, that's pretty much it.

Dry fit first.
As Erin said, wait link enough for the adhesive to tack up well.
3M makes a spray adhesive remover that's a bit easier on the paint and works fast.
3M also makes black w/s adhesive too.
Masking tape overnite on any trouble spots.

Yea thats better yet!

Geeze my above post sounds like I'm a tomboy. I'm not! just had a dad that was into cars, welding and construction. You probably won't hear anything from Vetron this weekend he and mom are at a SEAL reunion. God I hope he behaves

What kinda lab tech are you? Forensics? I used to do ident stuff for the Delaware State Police.

Off to lunch... open afternoon... debating my next project...

Started out as an engineering student at Purdue University, mid way through I switched to MicroBiology. When I started my lab work I was a med-tech in Micro. The Lab does some Forensics i.e unindentifulable body parts from a crime scene. Last body part a few weeks back was a severed penis found near a crime scene investigation.
Lab works in concert with area hospitals. Mostly Pathology, STDs, Hemotology, and tissue analysis, plus animal pathology. Like I said above we do it all. Currently Manager of Micro. Just finished my MBA, not sure where this will lead. My Vette came along at the right time! Focus on something mechanical. Hopefully this doesn't sound too macho but I love getting into an engine.

Good Afternoon. Lab is busy today, if it breathes, has skin or fur, bleeds, vomits, spits,DNA, Rh factors, ovulates, pees, poops, or I.D. a body part we do the definitive testing and results.
Dropped off alternator this morning, tech called a little while ago. Diodes ok, they will, replace bearings and anything needed for 95 dollars. One of my dads former students. I didn't think that was to bad.
The way my schedule looksI won't have time to touch "baby car" until sometime next week. I have to teach a class on comparative analysis on Monday.
BTW I was complimented on my Victory Red paint on one of my finger nails. I didn't notice latex glove probably ripped.
I appreciate all your input yesterday! Have a great weekend guys. Erin

I plan on a trip in two weeks with a considerable amount of night driving. I have the alternator out now and will take it our local Chevy Service Dept. for testing. I noticed today on my way to "the shop" how easy it is the break the tires loose with moderate acceleration. This is going take sometime to get use to especially in heels.

13.6V is still plenty IMO, especially at idle. Does it increase at all as you rev it?

I would not consider replacing an alternator until it started dropping under 13V at hot idle with everything drawing. Anything over 12.8 is still charging.

CC I don't see any movement of the dash gauge but does move on the VOM it increases slightly. Another thought maybe the battery is so efficient in its recovery it does require that much charging voltage. Does that make sense?

Alternator output should be 13.8 to 14.2 and battery voltage should be 12.6 or better. Everything sounds good to me, including the parasitic draw.

I checked the charging system at idle brights on, A/C on max, stereo on max(Brookes&Dunn never sounded so good)and left it that mode for 15 min. I would think that the alternator would be maxed out pumping those little electrons back into the battery. Maybe I will let it be for now and look up specs. Geez getting dads laptop pretty greasey.
I checked the charging system on Dads 55Chevy (what a brute) at idle (1200) it reads 14.9 v. and returns to 13.7-14.2its a Powermaster 160Amp alternator. Those numbers seem more logical. Maybe 13.6V isn't that far off normal, its only .20-.06 volts. Thanks Erin

Thank You Andy. Thats what I figured, alternator. I will remove the "little bugger" and tear it down! Thanks again

Hi guys Have a quick electrical question. Voltage gauge in dash reads 13.6v. I took a VOM to check on board gauge accuracy still 13.6 volts. I'm under the impression that the alternator should be putting out 14.2-14.6v. I checked the battery, 13 month old Exide reads 12.8v. My question is since the engine and electicals seem "normal" is this a bad alternator issue! perhaps a blown diode? When I use the VOM as a shunt between positive cable and positive post of batt I read .06 v I would assume thats a normal parastic draw.
BTW body is 60% detared and began to wet sand hood with 2000 grit. Bought a quart of Victory Red and plan on blending blistered paint on rockers with an air brush.
I appreciate you guys. Erin

Welcome aboard, Erin, and congrats on your new Z06! Your dad says the car is quite a beast - looking forward to seeing some pics, and hope it treats you well.

Thanks I will post pics as soon as I detail the exterior. My dads outside now trying different compounds to clean up the tar. The previous owner was a medical sales rep and put on a lot miles. I have tomorrow off so I will invade dad's shop a begin the process of bringing Zoe back to prime condition. Good night!

Hi Guru's I'm the new owner of a high mileage ZO6. I have wanted a Corvette since my dad brought home his brand new 87 Corvette. I hope I'm doing this correctly. Probably by the name zoe6 you have figured out I'm a girl. However, before you jump to conclusions I had a very good teacher, my dad. I helped him rebuild a 1957 Apache pickup with a 350-350hp engine and a Muncie rock crusher four speed. My dad talks so highly of you guys and the help you have given him I just had to buy a Vette . Unfortunately I don't have a lot of time this fall to blog daily but I will consult your expertise when problems arise. I hope Vetron is behaving himself, he starts school next week! he has quite a background. Thanks guys look forward to contributing to your group. Erin
