You have to do ypur home work either way. Get the magazines. The Chev dealership parts dept. here hands out a free magazine with nothing but hotrod stuff. There's hundreds of companys making stuff.
Go to www.hotrods.com

Get an issue of Popular Hotrod and order every catalog in it.

A friend of mine bought a wrecked Highway Patrol mustang for $850. He used the front suspension, motor/trans, rear, a/c and seats to build a 32.

Google hot rod parts, you'll get 962,000 hits

Do you have the equipment to do a build (mig/tig, metal saw, etc)?

I want to build a T Bucket from a kit OR buy a running driving, TITLED very basic t bucket. I can't stand most of them though, they are either waaaay over the top and expensive or $10K to 12K and junk anyways. I have adequate room and a decent enough skill set, paint and bodywork not a problem. Building a frame now that would be a problem. Anybody here build a Total Performace kit or a Speedway kit
I used to do paint and bodywork for a living and the only thing I ever farmed out on my C4 was the ring and pinion set up so I think I can handle it.

Drove like a truck.

I rode in one !! Does that count ? I am done throwing money at my C4 I want a car that looks badass and will absolutely frighten me when I jump on the loud pedal. I'm keeping my Corvette but other than maintenance stuff there's nothing more I want to do to it. Time for a HOTROD !! I have the orginal LT1 from my 93, that would make a neat engine for a bucket with a good heads and cam swap first lol

I REALLY REALLY want a t-bucket.... There isn't alot of information on the net at least not that I can find. So if anyone knows of a good site for information that would be helpful. Personal experience would be even better.

1. How much do they weigh with a sbc and an automatic ?
2. With question # 1 in mind how much power would one need to go mid 10s or better ? If I'm gonna BUILD a hotrod I want it to be FAST !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
3. It seems these things are built with more WOW factor in mind with multiple carbs, some with twin superchargers and blah blah I'm thinking a 450chp single carbed s.b.c. would be plenty with a 3.73 rear gear and a 700R4. The plan is to build my own from a basic kit. No ridiculous amounts of chrome, no candy show paint job I want to drive the mess out of it. Thoughts ?

When I need a trans I know exactly who I'll call no doubt about it.I would feel completely comfortable ordering a trans handing him my wallet and telling him to take out what it's worth. There aren't many people you could do that with and not get REAMED an extra hole LOL

The blowdown tube is new to me so I don't know if it gets cold or not. I wouldn't think it would as nothing will come out of it unless the burst disc ruptures though. It's pipe thread though. I asked the guy at Gellner Engineering who just filled the bottle and he said a little oil on the threads would be fine. I'll try that and see how that works out for now.

I upgraded my Nitrous set up with a blowdown tube a nice guage a purge set up blah blah. The blowdown tube is aluminum and the threads on the adaptor in the bottle are steel. Should I put some Antiseize on the threads or a light oil. It seems rather difficult to thread the two together. It's not cross threaded or anything it threads on and tightens down just wondering if it will cause issues later on. I don't drive the car much so a 10lb bottle will last a good while. Thanks in advance ! J.D.

p.s. How much Nitrous do you waste with a purge ? It's a zex system if that makes a difference.

You gotta have a blowdown tube on it. On a typical TNT night at my track nobody cares.

I saw a Nitrous bottle that let lose inside a guy car. So that got me to thinking about my car so I ordered a blowdown tube for mine. The questions I have is are the bottle mounts enough to hold it in place if it ruptures ? Is there a really good way to secure the bottle in the cargo area so IF it lets lose it stays put ? I have a 10lb Zex bottle with their mounts in mine. Suggestions ?

This might sound harsh but if you move out you are out of your fucking mind. I once had a finace and we lived together and when shit went sour I played the role of dumbass quite well. She wanted time alone blah blah all bullshit. She had a married boyfriend. I left all of my shit and NEVER again will I ever do something so fucking stupid. I wouldn't go anywhere WTF why should you move ? Pull your emotions out of it. I've been married now for almost 9 years and IF my wife ever pulls some shit like this it will become a game to see how far I can stick it up her ass before I break it off. Get an attorney and don't do a damned thing until you talk to one including moving out. I wish you the best of luck I really do but usually when shit goes sour one person ends up being the fool, it doesn't need to be you. Good luck !!

I'm with you 100%. It's called liberty. The more the government tells us what we can and can't do, the more liberty we give away. It seems Americans are more than willing to give up their freedom. I smoke cigars, always outdoors walking the dog. Never in the house. But, I support people being able to choose how they run their own darn business. That indoor ban put some people out of business.
Look at North Royalton. They banned smoking outdoors, in parks! Are you kidding me?!

Now look at what Gov. Strickland is investigating... putting GPS units in our car and charging us per mile driven in the state! A kickback from the company that sells the state the GPS units, a kickback from the company that gets the contract to install tham, and another kickback from the company that gets the contract to read the information. And what do we get? Screwed royally with no lube.
Look at E-check, sure it's free, but it's not. Stupid people don't realize tax dollars built those buildings and pay for the continued checks.

It's all going to hell in a handbasket. I wonder if people will ever wake up, or they'll just keep taking it?

WTF when will it stop ? How about they save a few bucks by killing everyone on death row ? That would free up a few bucks no ? Forget killing them with some expensive cocktail of drugs 9mm rounds are $11.00 for 50 which is alot less than feeding these ******* for another twenty years.

Doesn't just about everyone have cable, Dish or something similar ? If all you have are rabbit ears on your T.V. you won't miss much if you can no longer watch it. I agree though, switch the signal and watch how fast the idiots get ready.

Don't tell me I am hurting the environment and killing others with my second hand smoke but it can continue for a higher price. If they were really concerned about the health hazzards smoking would be illegal. I am a smoker who actually supports common sense smoking bans. I for one think the owner of a bar should be able to decide for themselves if they wish to allow smoking. If you are a nonsmoker then don't go to that bar plain and simple.

No you can't .
The PCV system is a closed system on EFI.The air that goes into the system is metered.
If you run an open breather then it is just a big vac leak; the ECM can not compensate for the unmeasured air.

FWIW;
my covers came with grommets for the breathers that were solid and required cutting open to make the breather functional.Beats welding
This type
http://store.summitracing.com/largeim ... ommets&img=mrg-6376_w.jpg

THANK YOU !!!!
That's an easy fix, now all I have to do is polish them real nice and reroute the P.C.V. valve to the top of the one cover rather than the side. I am suprised this hasn't been dealt with a hundred times over as many of the aftermarket centerbolt covers are not exact replacements.

Yeah I know welding them will mess up the polished aluminum
but couldn't I just have them redone ? I was thinking worst case weld them up and then have them chrome plated. I like the push in breather idea though very much thanks!!!

p.s. I know I am spending way too much money messing with a set of valve covers but I am a weirdo. lol

I bought a set of centerbolt valve covers for a L98 and I want to use them on my LT1. They are polished Aluminum however the have extra holes. I know the one hole is for the p.c.v. so how do I make these work ? I was thinking running a breather in each cover or having them welded up.
Ideas or suggestions including the p.c.v ?

Every new car has peel to some degree. Most guys will only notice it if it is drastic. I've done a couple of completes where I sanded them until they were completely smooth but it is just so much work. If you get the clear to lay out a light wetsand and buff is all that is needed but it will still have some peel.

The small welders are all made by Cebora and rebadged as everything from Clarke, to ATD and Astro. I do not know if this is in fact a Cebora welder though. Check to see where it is made as Cebora welders regardless of what name is on them are made in Italy. If it is a Cebora unit it will be fine and if it is actualy made by Lincoln Electric then you can't go wrong either. If you want a big window auto darkening helmut let me know I stock everything from Jackson Products 'U.S.A." to a $49.00 Titan helmut whcih for the $ is really quite nice.

You wouldn't think building a s.b.c. or installing gears would be a big deal considering how long both have been around but it certainly is. There are plenty of qualified techs the problem is finding one that will work on your twenty year old car installing speed parts and won't rip you off. Karma is a real bithc so I wouldn't worry about this guy he'll learn the hard way eventually.

I had a coworker/buddy want me to paint his 68 Dodge dart. I told him $1500.00 but he pays for all the materials. I was working on my 70 Lemans/GTO clone anyways. He started dropping off parts first the six pack fiberglass hood and fiberglass decklid. Then he brought the doors over, next it was the front and rear valance and front fenders. I got all of these parts in primer and all they needed was to be blocked with 400 as the bodywork was done and they were arrow straight. He decides he is going to move to California and be a rockstar so he asks for his money back since I didn't paint the car.... It takes all kinds dude... No he didn't get his money back as I made him pay me in full up front. He was never supposed to bring the car over in pieces but it was all apart and would stop over when I was working on the Lemans and drop shit off constantly. I ended up recovering the seats for his 73 Challenger as part of this abortion as well and he wanted a refund....

The simplest way to horsepower is to copy a build that you know works.

You would think people would have better things to do than help waste tax payer dollars investigating envelopes full of fake bullshit.

Yeah I don't like the initials either. I only brought them here since I used it for long over there.

Rest assured every teenage kid with a dragon sticker will want to test you to see if it's true.

But what if I get a dragon sticker too ? LOL

My car shifts goofy, when you take off it's fine but it just doesn't shift soon enough under normal crusing conditions. It will hold first gear way too long when you are taking it easy, if you let off the gas it will shift.
As long as your foot is on the gas it will hold first gear far too long, oh and it shifts really hard the 1-2 shift under w.o.t. can be a sideways experience on asphalt. It's been shifting like this ever since I put the gears in it. Any ideas what to look for ?

No need to be spending $$ every year at renewal to state the obvious. Brian, you might as well get a plate that says "vnty pl8" or "skys blu"

I got a new set of tags on the way for the Corvette. There is no combination of VETTE available however I did come up with something. IRUN11S I thought about I8VIPER however I have never raced one and most of them with a couple of mods will spank my car so I thought I had better not LOL

Maybe I just don't know how to drive. I have yet to get anything that even remotely resembles traction on the street in first or second gear and you have alot more motor than I do.

The C5Z is a better car, either can make silly power but there isn't much you can do about the shitty frame the C4 is stuck with.

And if that caused you to vote for him, it'd make you a racist.

Blacks traditionally vote 85-90% democratic. But this time, it was 95%, and of a much larger group of voters.

Black votes for the republican ticket dropped from about 750,000 in 2004 to about 1/3 that this time around.

I'm sure there's plenty of white racist voters too, but they probably all vote republican, so you'd never know how many seemed to be voting on skin color until a black republican candidate gets the nomination against a white democrat.

Being thrilled to see someone of your own race elected to the highest office in the land would certainly not make you a racist. If the color of their skin was the primary reason you voted for them then certainly. I think you could be thrilled of what it represents and still not have voted for the man. This is difficult to talk about for a couple of reasons. I am not black, so the idea that my son can grow up to be p.o.t.u.s. is a given. I would probably have felt differently if I were black until now.

Black people in this country vote democratic 9:1 the difference this year was they turned out to vote in record numbers in support of the first black candidate. They've strongly supported the democratic nominee just have never tuned out to vote in record numbers. IF I were black I would certainly be thrilled to see someone of my own race make it to the highest office in the land. Just imagine if there were 43 black presidents and now finally a white one.
I vote for the candidate I feel is best suited for the task at hand. I do the same when hiring someone, I am a registered Independent. I could see positives in both candidates. The personally think Obama will do a fine job IF he governs to the center left. If he goes way left he will fail miserably. It's hard to tell what you have until you actually have it. Same goes when you interview someone almost everyone interviews well. The concern is Obama interviewed one way in the primaries and another in the general election. He went left to beat hillary and came back to the center/left to win the general. It will be interesting to say the least.

Personally I think gay marriage is an oxymoron. They should call it something else and give them the same rights. I understnad the argument about defining marriage between one man and one woman so call the gay relationships egairram and be done with it.

I bought a 2008 Mercury Grand Marquis back in January. I absolutely love that car. It's big, it's boring and it's peaceful but built like a FN tank. It hasn't so much as sputtered yet. I had an 89 Ford Crown Vic old police car with 266K on the clock I drove every winter. Couldn't kill that car and I beat the snot out of it. I bought the big Merc because I wanted something reliable and these cars are. Best part is sticker was 26K got it for 24K then the rebate was $6500.00 off of that. Brand new fullsize full frame car with a V8 for less than a Civic.
