She could have got hit by it when getting out of the truck if it fell a few seconds in one direction or the other. The main thing is that nobody was hurt. These things fall all the time. It's a wonder more people aren't hurt by them. Living proof the s#!+ happens.

I'm just glad your wife wasn't hurt.

And yes, repop decals are perfectly legit.

now all he needs is the right black cased battery to put these decals on.

And I've got that black-cased battery (an AC/Delco with its handle removed and ears shaved off).

Only two flies in the ointment:

1) It's obviously not a real Delco Eye.

2) The labels curl after about nine months.

There are (of course) no replica batteries for a C4 - most folks just put in a modern AC/Delco "service replacement" and take the points deduction.

If you know you can't take that much of a points loss on the battery (perhaps because there are other issues with your relatively high mileage car) you might decide to completely redraw battery labels from old photos in Adobe Illustrator and print them at obscenely high quality on pricy extremely high gloss inkjet label paper.

At least that's what I did ...

Great looking GS!

My wife and always agree that someday we'll give in and get a Corvette with the heritage color combination - looks good with any generation.

Good afternoon, all.

Bill, you do good work.

Spent a good portion of today doing preparation for showing the 1985 in couple of weeks. Driver wheels and tires are back off - show wheels and tires on.

Patrick Long, Flying Lizards, explains Saturday's Mosport results:

Hi everyone – we’ve received lots of questions on the Mosport results. As you know, we won the race, but the No. 45 did not pass post-race technical inspection and we did not receive any points for the race win towards the championship. Many of you have asked: What is an engine stall test? Why didn’t you pass? What does that mean? Here are some answers for you: After each qualifying session and race, IMSA (the regulating body of the American Le Mans Series) executes a series of checks on the top finishing cars to ensure that all participants meet the specified technical guidelines for their class. The stall test is one of these. The purpose of this test is to check that no more air can get to the engine than the rules allow. Performing this test is pretty simple. While the car is idling, the air intakes are physically blocked. Blocking the air intakes should eliminate all air into the engine, causing it to stall. If the engine does not stall, it means that some additional air is getting to the engine, and it is possible that extra air could create more power. There are many ways that extra air could get to the engine: cracks in the manifold, leaks in various seals, etc. To our surprise, the No. 45 did not stall during this test after the race and was disqualified. You can imagine all the mechanics and engine people pulling their hair out trying to figure out what had gone wrong. We could not see anything wrong, and so protested the disqualification. We investigated the issue more thoroughly when the car was returned to us, and found that the air cleaner had been improperly fitted. This caused the device to flex during the race and the seal to eventually fail. This is very likely what caused us to fail the stall test. While we are not certain that this caused us any advantage, rules are rules, and we support the Steward’s ruling. A very disappointing end to a great race. Now on to Mid-Ohio!

Classy response.

Good morning, all!

Things change in life. I use to be massively into audio and always had to have the very best that was remotely affordable. Time flies ...

... my ten year old integrated amplifier is dying and I'm trying to figure out which receiver to replace it with. In the process, I'm finding out two things:

1) I no longer need the very best I can afford. Nice, yes: but not the top of the line.

2) I'm not nearly as up-to-date on this stuff as I used to be.

A stall test can also be initiated by a 1985 Corvette's (dumb, slow) computer:

Date of Bulletin: 8505
NHTSA Item Number: 79273

Good afternoon all.

Woke up quite sick this morning and called out. Finally started to feel human around noon - I've spent some of this afternoon cleaning out the garage of the remnants of various failed projects (mostly with the 1985). I've also found some parts that remind me of projects yet to be completed.

L98 intakes are no great shakes either ...

... any insight as to why the L83 intake was done that way? Is it even worse in the 1982 version?

... so, a couple of months ago, Rex Ruby kindly brings by one of Kerbeck's posters of the Centennial Edition Corvette. My wife (this really isn't her fault) casually says "It would be really nice if we had one poster for each car".

So, I find a 1985 Corvette advertisement and completely recreate it with a shot of my 1985 in Adobe InDesign 6. 30-inch by 20-inch poster, full prepress quality, every font, line, and graphic carefully placed and aligned. It took 51 revisions.

About 100 hours, but ...

... we are one-third done.

Good afternoon, all!

Just got back from a three and half day mini-vacation:

Philadelphia suburbs
National Air & Space Museum Udvar-Hazy Center in the Washington DC suburbs (spectacular - go if you have any interest in aircraft)
stay the night in Richmond, VA
visit relatives in North Carolina
stay the night in Chapel Hill, NC
visit the US Naval Acadamy in Annapolis, MD
stay the night in Annapolis
Philadelphia suburbs

938 miles in the new car

I remember getting lots of points for seeing the first Sex In The City movie in the theaters, but I had no objection to the sushi scene ...

Good afternoon, all.

The wife and I ran a local 5k this morning. Our times were not spectacular, but were better than expected in the heat and humidity.

Have a glorious fourth!
