Price and pre-sale service was good. Now let's see what the spring looks like. I'll post an update when it gets here.

Think I've found one. Vette2Vette did not have one.
Anyone deal with CorvetteNutz.com before? Fellows name is Shawn. Offered to send pics, etc. Just curious if anyone knows anything about them?

Chris has discovered that his rear mono leaf is cracked, and needs to be replaced. Anyone have one, or know of one he can pick up? His car is not a Z51, by the way.

There are a couple on the 'bay, but looking around first.

Hey Chris,
Check out this thread. I've been soliciting ideas for your car:

And as for your headers.......check this place out:

Thanks all! I knew you would give us plenty of food for thought, and you didn't let me down. Now we simply have to digest all your input and decide on a direction. I really hadn't thought much about the fact that moving up to an LT1 exhaust would be easy, given the headers and the cat already being gone (forest for the trees thing, you know!), but that makes perfect sense, and will be my suggestion to him. Which way we go will be determined by how much he can spend.

As far as FIC, thanks for all the input. It's obvious we cannot go wrong there.

Thanks for the "laundry list", Andy. I may start looking for some intake options. My biggest concern there is that the '85 would still have a flat tappet cam, so if we chose to change it, it would make sense to retrofit a roller, I would think (we did that to Trae's C3 last winter). Anyway, it looks like it wouldn't take much to really wake the L98 up.

Once again, thanks everyone for the input. I'll keep you posted, and post some pics when we get to that point!

John

Trae and I have been helping a young friend with his '85, and I have a couple of questions about the best options in a couple of areas:

First, the exhaust. This car has a set of Hooker long tube headers (they were on the car when he got it). Someone had removed the Cat, and replaced it with "true duals", back to some very loud mufflers. End result, the car is so loud as to be uncomfortable. He wants to put a Corsa cat back on the car, however Corsa does does not offer a system for an '85.....but I think the only reason is the flange mount to the Cat. Since we're gonna put a Cat on it anyway, can we not put an '86 Cat on the car, and then use a Corsa system for an '86? (We know we will have to have a custom Y pipe made for the headers to the Cat)

Second, while we have the top end of the intake system apart for cleaning/painting, we need to have the injectors rebuilt. I assume that FIC is our best choice? (Not used them before, but I trust the judgement of the Gurus!) We're not even sure what size they are. The car has a BBK throttle body, but we have no clue as to any other mods that may have been made.

Looking forward to opinions, etc. Thanks in advance to all of you guys!

Thanks, and you are correct......that is a different alt. Here is a pic of the engine in the '85 that I had a few years ago.

Would the modification be a big deal? I've got a milling machine, and I know this young guy wants to do away with the pump, and your's looks much better than the one I made before.

Thanks!

Jeff,
Are you sure the Alt. case is larger on an '85? I know a guy who would probably buy one of these for his '85. I had an '85, but never compared the Alt. to any others, and I made my own bracket......but yours is fantanstic, much better than mine.

Good Morning, CG's! I just wanted to offer thanks to all you guys who have been offering advice and answers to the new poster, C4Williams. He is a young family friend of ours (I've known him since he was a toddler). Chris really is excited about his Vette, and wants to "learn it all", so
Trae and I have been helping him along, and trying to get him be patient, which I know is not easy at his age. I've not been able to help him as much as I'd like, due to some health issues, but Trae has shown him what he could, and I've been there when I could. Bottom line is, the knowledge base here at the Guru is a much better source than we could ever be, so thanks to all you guys for keeping the younger generation interested in our great cars!

Here you go, Tom. It would be great if any of you guys plan to do this.......it's only about an 1 1/4 hours from my home, so I can be there easily. Trae is only about another half hour, and I know he would love to meet up folks there, too.

Devil's Staircase

Check this out, also:

Diamondback

There are maps there, and the "Diamondback Loop" takes in the "Devils Staircase" as part of the 30 mile loop. That's what we drove.....twice, on July 3rd. More fun than should be allowed!

While we're on the subject, if anyone is interested, here is another of our favorite routes. It's only about 15 minutes from Trae's home!

Highway 421 - The Snake

It would be worth some of you guys time to come over for a weekend and allow us to "guide" you on these roads!

It is awesome! I enjoyed that one stretch of road more than any other part of our two day, 370 mile trip. What makes it really special is the elevation change.......you can't imagine how steep it is in parts by looking at the map.....you need to go there!

I can't compare it to the Dragon.......I've yet to make it there, but I highly recommend anyone to find and drive the "Diamondback Loop". If the Dragon is much better, I'll not be able to stand it when I do that!

I really want to bring some of our folks down that way for a long weekend cruise one day. We had "Tail of the Dragon" on our calendar this year but cancelled because we have too much going on already.

Is your car Machine Silver or Pewter? Whatever, I really like it. BTW -- I hope you are feeling better. Been there; Done that.

Thanks for the kind words....from everyone. I can assure you that it is worth the trip there just for the scenery, and DRIVING on the Parkway and the surrounding roads is just icing on the cake!

The pics of us driving were made by one of the many photographers that set up on these mountain roads nowadays. Those particular pics were taken by "Blind Kenny" on the "Devils Staircase", which is Hwy 80 in NC. It is part of the "Diamondback Loop", a 30 mile loop starting and ending in Little Switzerland, NC. Most of those guys will have signs just past them with their website, where you can go and order the pics.

My car is Pewter. It was my wife's choice of C5 colors, and took a while (over a year) to find with the mileage and condition I wanted. Finally found it, garaged, under a cover, only 8 miles from where I live!

Thanks for the encouragement, too. I am feeling much, much better than back in March............however I am afraid that I have some lingering effects that now don't appear to be going away. I still have no feeling in most of my left leg/foot. The Doc says that I had some pretty serious nerve damage, and that he doubts it will improve any more, so I am learning to cope. At least most of the pain is gone! All in all, I shouldn't complain.

Most of you didn't know it, but I've had some issues this past spring that have slowed me down quite a bit (Herniated Disc surgery back in March). Anyway, last month I finally got to do some real cruising in my beloved mountains, and here's a few pics!

The seat rocking issue is common, both my seats were that way at 56k miles. There are kits available with nylon washers to fix them, or you can do like I did and buy some nylon washers at Lowes and make them square to fit. I think there is a pictorial how to online somewhere.....I remember seeing it. Anyway, if anyone decides to do it themselves, let me know and I'll tell you the steps as I remember them. We (Trae and I) did mine in a couple hours.

And the Column Lock thing, in my experienced opinion, is not nearly the terrible problem that one would think by reading threads on the CF. Teebee helped point me in the right direction when I had issues with mine, and as it turned out, the only issue I had was trying to avoid the problem!

Enjoy the new ride......and let's see some pics!

Hey Bill, keep us posted. A friend of mine just put those on his C4, too, and I'd like to know how good they are, so between the two of you I should get some pretty good feedback. As I said the other day, I'm getting enough miles on the tires on my C5 to start thinking about the next set, and I like to keep an open mind.

Turn signal "hyperflash" issue

Okay, this seems a little strange to me. First of all, I've had the "halo" style LED tail lights on this car for almost two years, with no issues. A few days ago, while just out cruising, when I turned on the right signal, it "fast flashed". I thought I probably had a front bulb burned out...so when I got home I looked at it.....but the front bulb was burning fine, and the rears were fine also. The next time I drove the car, the right signal worked OK! Yesterday, back to the fast flash....only on the RIGHT signal. Left signal, and hazard flashers work just fine. Anyone got any ideas? I know there are "hyperflash harnesses" available for sale (probably consist of some sort of ballast resistor) for LED systems, but supposedly these tail lights don't require them, and for the past two years, they have worked just fine. Has anyone else heard of this problem, or ??

A good friend of mine is an ASE Certified Tech, owns his own shop. He also has 2 C5s (a '98 and a '02 Z06). His advice to me was to try not to run the fuel level below 1/4 tank for long periods or often. Seems the biggest enemy of the pumps is heat, and keeping them submerged keeps them cool. Anyway, I've not had any problems, and of the many C5 owners in our club, I don't recall any of them having issues with the fuel system either. If I hear any different, I'll post it.

Service issues out here in the fly over spaces is something to be considered and TB likes his and runs them so they can't be all bad. 95Vette and Volzfan also had good things to say about them.

Tire Rack was $950, then I had to get them mounted and balanced and I don't know about shipping. My local guy charged $1050.00 for the set mounted and balanced. So I went with that. Thanks for all the Guru help!

Sounds like a helluva deal!

Congrats, and keep us posted with your opinion of them. I'm getting close to 15k on my present tires, and as I said, these will be on my consideration list.

The bottle that comes in the Z06 kit (the C5 Z06's did not come from the factory with runflats, only the kit with the bottle of slime and compressor) says that it is sensor safe. Now, I've not had to use it, so I can't say for sure, but it's supposed to be okay. I also carry a "plug tool" and plug material in mine. Hopefully, it will all go bad before I ever need it.

You mention the Michelin Pilots.......a good friend of mine has those on his '98 and loves them......so I'm sure they are great tires! I may look at the non runflat version of those next time.

That's how I roll!!

The biggest change in the way my C5 drives/rides was when I replaced the runflats with non. I got one of the Z06 "fix a flat" kits off Ebay for about $40, and feel quite confident it will get me out of a bind in most cases, and AAA will take care of any other.

I know the newest runflats are probably better than the old Goodyears I had, but honestly, you could run over a dime with them and tell if it were heads or tails! And the noise......the difference is like night and day.

Beautiful car, by the way! Enjoy it!

Hello guys, and Congrats to biggrizzly, well deserved I might add.

Marcus, that sounds like a pretty good price for that C5. As others have said, the CL problem shouldn't be an issue with that model.........and honestly, I think it's been blown out of proportion on all of them. As TeeBee says, the seat foam gives up pretty easy on these. Mine was pretty flat at approx. 56k, but it's not that expensive, and really easy to install if you're handy at all. You'll be happy with it, I'll bet. Keep us posted, and good luck! We need to see pics!

Okay, I've spent enough time looking and trying to decide.
I really, really like TeeBee's C5 (kinda partial to them, you know). I'm probably obligated to vote for Trae (not that it would not be worthy, it certainly is, and I should know )

But my official vote goes to biggrizzly. That car is a perfect example of the pride and passion that we all have for our Vettes! Well done!

I've got an extra set, but they are out of a Monogram ZR-1 kit, so they are 1/24th scale......if that would make difference.(I really doubt it would be noticeable at all). If you want them, message me a mailing address. I'll send the tires with them.

These cars are new to me. I'll have to research them a bit.

On the old TV show, "Miami Vice", Don Johnson drove a Ferrari 365 GTS Spyder, supposedly a car that had been seized from a drug dealer. However, since that was a very rare car in reality, they used replicas, built on C3 Corvette chassis, for the show/stunts. The replicas were pretty well done......very convincing.......if you didn't look TOO close!

Very interesting! It's been a while since I've seen any of those......but I used to see them a lot!

You see, when the original cars from the show needed repairs, for some reason, they were sent to a Corvette shop here, in Kingsport Tennessee, of all places, for repair. I remember the guy well, Carl Roberts. He did such a good job for them on those cars, (and he was a great Corvette guy, many fantastic restorations) they later commissioned him to build some more, and he eventually built a bunch of 'em and sold them to the public! That is, until Ferrari sent a high priced lawyer with some legal papers to see him, and as you could guess, "the rest is history". Wonder what he's doin' now? Even the Vette shop he had is now gone.....

Question 5

This is a tricky question; all I want is the last name of the family involved.

The 300 1953 Corvette’s made were mostly given away as promotional pieces to celebrities. A few were sold, though. Who was the first family to actually buy a 1953 Corvette?

(If this gets hard, I do have a hint or 2)
