Very interesting! It's been a while since I've seen any of those......but I used to see them a lot!

You see, when the original cars from the show needed repairs, for some reason, they were sent to a Corvette shop here, in Kingsport Tennessee, of all places, for repair. I remember the guy well, Carl Roberts. He did such a good job for them on those cars, (and he was a great Corvette guy, many fantastic restorations) they later commissioned him to build some more, and he eventually built a bunch of 'em and sold them to the public! That is, until Ferrari sent a high priced lawyer with some legal papers to see him, and as you could guess, "the rest is history". Wonder what he's doin' now? Even the Vette shop he had is now gone.....

These cars are new to me. I'll have to research them a bit.

On the old TV show, "Miami Vice", Don Johnson drove a Ferrari 365 GTS Spyder, supposedly a car that had been seized from a drug dealer. However, since that was a very rare car in reality, they used replicas, built on C3 Corvette chassis, for the show/stunts. The replicas were pretty well done......very convincing.......if you didn't look TOO close!

The Ferrari look alikes are made using several different car models including C3 and C4 Corvettes, pretty cool.

There are some C4 based conversions, but the most realistic, and the ones from the show were all based on the C3.

I remember watching the pilot episode... they are speeding through downtown miami, late at night... camera mounted to the left rear fender, behind the tire... looking forward... and watching the Corvette rear suspension arc across its range of movement... something a real Daytona wouldn't do!

The other give away of a replica vs. the original was the vent window on the doors. Most replica's don't have it, the original does. Also, the Miami Vice replica has flared fenders (which look fantastic IMHO) where the original does not. There is an episode of Miami Vice where a scumbag lawyer is trying to mend his ways and redeem himself. He drives a REAL yellow Daytona spyder and the lack of fender flares and vent windows are pretty obvious compared to the black Vice replica.
