Huh? What year do you have? I installed this flasher (necessaryfor led lights) in 10 minutes in an 84. Its under passenger hush pad on side toward radio. It pulls out of a C shaped holder and just pull and replace old one. Run ground wire to any of the nearby grounding points.

What are you doing to the fog lights that he wont do!?!? Fry what wiring? The stock wiring? Perplexed!

Have you done this yet?!?
One word of caution...when you put the new one on you will probably have to push rather hard..MAKE SURE DOOR IS WELL SUPPORTED! I bent my door hinge! Sure it was 20 years old and kinda weak already...but I made more work for myself and more $!

If its the OEM 84 rear deck it has less screws than redesigned unit to eliminate that squeak. Newer one has 2 holes in center and 2 holes along edge parallel to glass.

New? $1100? Didnt they make these 15 years ago and call them "LeMans lights". Gonna check old Eckler's catalogs and see....think they were cheaper than 88 retrofit kit...and that was $400 then!

Thats how I did mine...through license plate and w'o reverse lights. Only 2 screws and have more room for your arm! It may be easier if you happen to have the exhaust off and do it from below and nix the license plate.

Actually you will need a LED Electronic flasher for a 1990. Even if you have a newer vette with an electronic flasher instead of a thermal flasher they blink very rapidly.
You cant find one at your local auto store.
Its a hard part to find (Lumipro EF32RL) but is available from CorvetteCentral for $15

or backordered at Eckler's (pic there)http://www.ecklers.com/product.asp?pf ... es+-+Lamps-_-52951-_-Xfor $10. But you can also find them at almost any truck stop and online at only 2 places.

Granger http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/items/2FNE7

and DrillSpot http://www.drillspot.com/products/453 ... EF32RL_Electronic_Flasher

They do last a long time depending on where you live. I bought the car from a guy who lived at the beach. The resistors were toast after only 8 years from the salt air. However, the last one has lasted me 16 years now. Since I'm about due I bought a spare while they are still under $15.
I learned my lesson the hard way when my interior timer failed ...all the NOS are gone and its only being reproduced at the exorbitant price of $120!

I know question was for 96.
But for people with 84-89 dash....there are 2 different knob and door designs for proper restoration.
The early knobs have round heads and a slot for a screw driver. These pair with doors without vent slots in a shiny finish.
Later C4 doors have a matt finish and are vented with knobs that have a flat projection you can grab and turn.
Not sure if even NCRS gives a darn about it..but I do ;-)

There certainly were alot of the blue 2 tones. Franklin mint even did their 84 model in it! (click to open BIG in new window)

However, when I think BAD 2 tone I think of this pic I'd saved! OK so its not exterior but its SO weird. Gold and Blue?!?!Resized Image

I got mine from Ecklers a couple of years ago:

- they're a good color match and they have the velcro. A skilled NCRS judge will flag them as not original because (get this) the rubber nibs on the back are too large.

I got a kick out of that one! Nibs too big. What about the rubber heel pad that was original on 84's?

NCRS manual itself is a JOKE. I can think of at least 6 things off the top of my head that were wrong with the NCRS Manual I bought at Corvettes at Carlisle. The problem was the original survey was done by a guy with an 86 in NJ. I remember writing him about a lot of the things that were wrong with it but got no response. I havent seen the newest version but I hope its a bit more accurate!

When you put the fender/battery cover back on....You might want to Notch out the bottom piece so its a "U" shape instead of a "O". The bolts are a real BEAR to get back in....which is probably why they were left off.
This way when you need to change the battery in future you only need to loosen the bolt rather than remove it...and the rocker panels! :-)

There actually were standard 4x6" speakers in NON-Bose cars located in the upper dash. There were no door speakers on those cars. I've also added speakers there in addition to the Bose speakers by using the power from an aftermarket stereo by splitting the signal then using an interface for the Bose amp.

I know that the 84 at least has the grills with the holes already pre-drilled. No doubt they can be found used somewhere or like you suggested drill them yourself. And yes you can recover them easily. I've also spray dyed the material as long as its just faded and not wrinkled.
Hope that helps.
