And BTW Bill. I'm with you on 20 min. shopping time / yr.
I am totally NOT a "shopper".

Few years ago I visited my brother for a few days....morning came and he said "lets go...I need a new pair of shoes"....as God is my witness I went to Eight shoe stores with him humming and hewing over his purchase decisions....ended back at the FIRST (fricking) store and FINALLY buying his fricking shoes....SEVEN hours later! I was totally dumbfounded!

Turned out ok though cause he gave me much beer later.

Been in the market for a 50" (would fit the cherry wall unit I built 2 yrs. ago) ever since I started reading this thread. Did some research and pricing and thought about waiting for BF or Boxing day to actually purchase....
Was in (my Local Canadian) Costco a few days ago and came across a "demo model for sale" and bought it. It was $499.00 and has a great Costco warranty. 50" LG Plasma.
We're delighted with it.

Hi guys,

Well, I finally found the problem. It was my CCM.

After chasing down every ground I ended up calling Ken @ K&B, described the issues and he felt confident that it was the ccm. I sent it down to him and he got it repaired and back to me quickly (Thanks Ken).

I got very busy with work so didn't have the time to get it back into the vette until this morning (hellish job)....but got it all buttoned up by noon and voila'. Been driving it around all afternoon, before the rain begins tomorrow.

Thanks for all the advice and helping me to think it all through.

Steve, the roller rockers will work with non-roller cams, no problem. Perhaps you should consider the 1.6 ratio rockers though, as they provide extra 'lift' and ~very~ slight increase in duration. Both will fit your valve cover...although the 1.6 ratio ~may~ require you to remove the oil deflector tabs inside the valve cover ~depending if you have them~.

Stock VC's allow the height required for 1.5 & 1.6 rockers...perhaps even 1.7 ratios would work....but I don't know. David (Eng Doc) would know for sure.

Life intruded today. Never got the Start Relay tested. Bill, I did check the fuse to the LCD (it was good).

I did however have the opportunity to research my specific problem on line and I gotta say, there's very few people that have had my same symptoms.....no crank/dead security light & info centre.

I'm slowly concluding I have a bad ground somewhere.....so I'm going to carry on with that assumption and chase all the grounds down. (which I believe wouldn't be a waste of time regardless)

At the same time I'll be checking further on the + side of the circuits.

Truth is that there's been a whole bunch of aftermarket (read novice) alterations to the wiring under the dash before I got it 8 years ago and after removing most of it then, the cars been fine.

So what I'm saying is it may finally be my time to Pay the Piper!

Will keep you all in the loop.
Thank you all so much for your advice.

Stupid me.....meant to say VATS, not PKE!

I thought the VATS was deleted in my tune though.

Point taken about the battery Andy. I'm resistant to assuming it's a battery problem simply because it's only 8 months old (Costco). Since replacing it, it's been fine so long as I start it up every few weeks (never needed a charge). This time I was so busy I had to ignore the vette for 2 months......so I simply assumed it needed a trickle charge. After charging it up (2Amp) for a few days I tried to start it this morning.....with results as described above.

Tomorrow I'll trace the starter relay and let you all know.

AND I'll double check the grounds just to make certain.

Thanks all.

If there's no volrage there, you have to find out if there's voltage at the starter enable relay (opwer comes thru either the clutch switch ot PARK switch.

I'll check the starter enable relay.

Though I'm thinkin' that the problem is some where else since the fuel pump enable relay doesn't seem to be working either.

My thoughts also......of note: The "security" light doesn't come on, even for a second. Thinking I'm 'locked out' as in the key chip isn't being read?

And like Joe said, the grounds need to be checked.

Did that.

What exactly is happening on the dssh(with no codes coming up).
Is the dash lit up like normal with the key on?

The idiot lights all work but the central display remains dead.

Oh, I know what you're saying Joseph! I had wierd things happen last year and re-did all my grounds in engine bay. Dielectric grease on all ground and battery contacts.

Just checked them and they're making good contact.

I would start with the battery. At 11.2 v, and if its been sitting, it's contacts may be bad... also, 11.2v isn't the key, it's current. If the battery doesn't have the amps, it won't fire.

Low voltage will also mess with the computers. So if there isn't enough to power them, oops... no love.

I would pull the battery, take it and have it tested. That's my best guess... or, best first stab.

I hear you Andy. But 11.2v would be enough to engage the starter solenoid, if not the starter itself.
I put the trickle charge back on the battery and with it connected shows 12.84 volts and still no crank.

I'm thinking it's perhaps somewhere in the PKE system?

Car sat untouched for 2 months (in dry garage). Tried it today (after charging battery) and nothing. Dash lights light up and headlights are strong. Battery tested to 11.2 volts.

Got under the car and tested the starter connections...all good....well battery power good, signal wire from key dead of course.

Fuel pump doesn't prime.

After trying a while the PKE light came up on the console display (first time I've seen it light up). Cleaned the pellet and contacts repeatedly. Waited 10 - 15 mins. Still no joy.

Pulled the PKE fuse and light stayed on. Disconnected battery and reconnected and light went out.

Tried the wait thing again.....cleaned the pellet again and still nothing.

Tried to pull codes (PCM and PKE) but nothing came up on the dash display. Nothing. Not even C12.

Tried doing a search but couldn't find any more info than what I've listed above.

I TRIED doing the Service Manual thing.....but after 2 hours of reading I'm still lost.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

The Abbotsford Police Department (APD) is taking its anti-gang messaging on the road – literally.
The APD unveiled its newest project today in its battle to turn young people away from the gang lifestyle. Operation Reclamation involved transforming a sand-coloured 2004 Hummer H2 into a vehicle sporting the APD's black-and-white theme, police lights, and a "skin" of graphics and messages...........

http://www.google.ca/url?url=http://w ... rTeTdo9Q79Q8Jl9z6-0NHXj3g

I think it's a great thing they're doing. They'll use the hummer for events, including going from school to school with their messages of anti-drugs and anti-gangs. My neighbour is asst. police chief and he often brings that hummer home.

I'm watching this thread closely.....

I have a subtle 'stumble' for a few seconds(like 1 cylinder not firing)every time my AC engages. It's more than 'normal' or simply 'drag'...it's quite unusual and obvious. I'm thinking perhaps some glitch in the PCM.

Anyway, I'm hoping you find your problem Bogus.

Funny thread!!!

For over 30 years I was 'One Of You'....that all changed one month ago.

I hired a gardener! Young energetic entrepreneur with a helper do it all (takes them 19 minutes ~timed it~) every two weeks. AND....it's only $60 per month!

The BEST part is that my wife thinks I'm brilliant!

Here's a Cardone re-manufactured '333 ECM. Seems real cheap considering the $115 core charge is included.

That's great news!
Sorry about the lost bolt.
Perhaps use your magnet while rocking the cam a little back and forth?
Best of luck!

Back in the 80's I had a repair shop.
Had many commercial customers (delivery and taxi mostly) that needed new engines. They wanted 'rebuilds' but I convinced them the cheapest way was to have me get complete engines (10 to 40 thousand miles) from the wreckers complete with all accessories. BUT...(I would explain to them)all their accessories (oil pump, timing chain, gasket set, water pump, distributor, alternator, oil pump, oil pan, etc, etc) would have factory existing miles on them (10 to 40k) which would be much better than re-installing their 250k existing items Saved them thousands. (Sure, I could have made decent bucks from the rebuild going the 'shop way'..and actually STAYED IN BUSINESS....thus being a real 'shop'....but whatever, eh?).
Now, 30 years later, things haven't really changed, except the list of items included on the wreckers list (CTS, MAF, etc, etc).
Of course today, the wreckers have gotten smarter and separated these items from the engines and sell them apart(and THEY are still in business, of course).

All this to say.....it's better to buy factory used than to buy rebuilt new.

Keep some rock handy for filler if you come up a little short on concrete. Don't forget the wire mesh and maybe a several rebar rods hammered down to prevent the walkway from shifting. I know you know. Friendly reminder.

Also a bag of Portland cement....1 shovel per bag of Mix would give you a good strong mix.

When I shopped for my vette 7 years ago I purposefully avoided considering any convertibles. Verts, I felt, made the driver (me) the center of attention. I wanted to avoid that and maintain the CAR as the center, with me controlling it & owing it in the 'background'. Does that make any sense?

I would suspect either of these two somehow being the problem, even though you've spec'd them both.

Either that or you have a massive vacuum leak?

Luck, man.

Yeah, yeah, yeah...who cares? your ".org" is a local vette club and is USELESS for 99% of the country.

Bottom line is that Hydrocarbon is cheaper looking...period. If you think it looks "real" then your standards arent very high ...sorry...it looks NOTHING like real to a discriminating eye.
Hydrocarbon looks like fake wood looks...why bother?
Its like someone saying their formica "granite look" countertop looks "just like" real stone...then they make an abserd claim its "better"..... yeah go ahead keep telling yourself that!

If you want a better looking dash super cheap then just spray paint like many other people do instead. (Some great pics on this site of people's finished resprays)

BUT... Guess what? REAL CARBON FIBER kits are LESS $$$ then that hydrocarbon garbage if you shop around. Check ebay or research companies online. Sure, if you want an entire piece 100% molded of CF it's expensive...but if you want to accent with CF why buy fake when real is better for less?

PS Dont believe the hype hydrocarbon sells you about real CF discoloring. Sure if its your ROOF then it may discolor...but I've had my INTERIOR for over 10 years and it still looks GREAT!

Geeze you're pissy.
VERY unlikeable.

Thank you for the correction...I'm not an LT expert

Ralf - those codes are really step one, so post up what you find!

Hi Ralf,

If that were happening to me.....and getting no codes....first (only because it's free) I'd remove/clean/re-adjust the IAC (Idle Air Control). Second, the thing I'd replace is the CTS (coolant temperature sensor). It's about $50.00 and would of been my first suspect, but I'd do the free stuff first.

Good luck!
