Anyone know of a good/active transmission forum or Chrysler forum?

I googled but can't find anything really active. I'm sure there used to be some decent forums on Yahoo Groups but I can't even find that now.

I'm just trying to find out the transmission fluid spec for the A604 (41TE). Normal googling comes up with every possible suggestion, some known to be wrong. So I'm looking for a true 'knowlegable' answer.

Thanks.

That sounds like it was the best place for it then denz!

Any further forward yet?. Did you try the other forum that vis suggested?

Let us know the outcome, the other guy's here have probably heard it all before, but I'm interested to learn as a newb.

@Bill. I'm glad you posted that, I wondered what was in the opti... no much I guess.

If you don't mind changing opti's, I'd consider trying putting the original back on (if you haven't already). As mentioned before, it could have survived the washing and it was wet HT that stopped the engine which you've since cured with new wires etc.

I might be living on borrowed time, however... almost two years ago my water pump bearing collapsed and soaked the opti for hours. I was expecting the opti to be shot, but I'm about 5k miles further on and it is still good.

Yep, I've found the cream/clear grease in many connectors and it is there to help prevent moisture/corrosion.

Sorry denz, apart from the things above, I'm outta my 'novice' ideas. Hopefully the guy's will keep on plugging at it with you.

Good luck.

I don't know anything about the brands of opti you guy's have available, but as has been said... you do read a lot about cheap opti's giving problems and being false economy etc.

Just a 'imo'... I wouldn't rule out moisture lingering, shorting, arcing even after a month @ 95, it can linger. Also if it has arched (anywhere) in the past it can leave a carbon track that will give problems. 'If' I've followed your other posts, you probably found moisture/arching when you tested in the dark, this seemed to be sometime after the car had been stored in a hot environment... so don't exclude moisture (imo).

Denz, I'm sure this is frustrating.

As Vis say's and you realise, it sounds like bad spark/timing in some form or another. A long shot... have you tried spraying some water repellant (WD40 or whatever you guys use)?. Everything else being right, there has to be a connection with the washing, I wonder if there is still moisture in ANY connector.

Thanks for putting me right Bill.

Not having had a any experience of these motors I just think along general mechanic lines. What's on the other end of the opti driveshaft, is that splined too or is it non-removable?

I'm just thinking on my feet really (bit like the 'dark garage/arching suggestion) and I'm no GM guru, but I wonder (others might verify):-

When you say it sounds like a diesel, do you mean it literally?. Does the engine run better worst at idle or higher revs or under load (being driven)?

Was there any chance that water got into the air intake/filter or perhaps the crank position sensor connectors?

I've never taken my opti off, so hopefully someone will chme in, but I read sometime ago in another forum that the opti driveshaft can be 'force' fitted 180deg out... I don't know if thats true!?!... anyone?

Do you still have the old opti?. I wonder if it didn't actually get badly damaged by the washing and now that you've found/fixed the arching it may have just been water in the HT... lots of work I guess just to try the old opti so I don't know if it's worth it!?.

Do you have a good quality induction timing light?. I know you can't time this engine, but (on other cars) I have sometimes found bad HT by connecting a timing light to each HT wire in turn and just watching the consistency/strength of the light shining on the crank pulley.

As said, just idle thoughts from a non GM techie... the guru's will probably say I'm off the wall and definately will have better suggestions.

I think you’re right in that is was a game plan imposed by the team manager, but it crippled their normal style/flair and most of the time (1st half especially) resulted in players arriving in the opposing box/wings with no strikers to pass to. Not the way they’re used to playing.

Lot’s of the teams appeared to play too defensively, which (imo) didn’t make for a good competition, purely because it wasn’t they’re regular play.

Thanks 96vette. Wasn't a bad game, but the Spanish were being lazy... trying to 'walk' the ball to the box. The Dutch have certainly been consistent and steady in there games... it's a tough call for the final.

Bit of a dissapointing competition in general though...!

Thanks for the suggestions guys.

I've tried making up all sorts devices Andy and as simple as a jet should be, nothing works. My attempts have either squirted water everywhere or just dribbled... bit like an incontinent pensioner (pic needed Tommy).

I don't think we have any Old's dealers over here. I was hoping it might be a common cross-marque item... perhaps not.

I have an annual test coming this week and I bet they're gonna fail the tube flapping around.

Anyone know another US made car (that is possibly imported into EU) that uses those little 'on-wiper arm' washer jets the same as on the 93 C4.

We haven't got a 'real' vette dealer and I'm trying to see if I can find the same part in a Ford, Chrysler etc etc dealership.

Had she had an ATM card stolen Tommy?. My missus had her bag (with cards) stolen a couple of years ago. She never keeps PIN codes written down (so no codes with the cards), but somehow the thieves managed to clear her account through an ATM.

EU Banks say the codes are not on the embedded in the card, so it was a heck of an arguement to get the bank to put things right.

Yep, the tomatoes are spanish holiganism, oranges mainly in italy, but also spread to a limited extent to spain... for other reasons I beleive.

Oranges Italy:-

Been to Germany to bring my bike back home (left it there when I had to home quick about 6 months ago). Looking forward to a bit of riding whilst the weather is still good, then I'll probably rebuild it (again).

So what have I missed, anything good?

It's hot (35c) here in Spain, but a nice steady breeze today.

Had a package waiting for me when I got home, all the parts to strip and rebuild my AC compressor... jobs are mounting up

My old Chrysler came back from Madrid last night after have the gearbox rebuilt. Very impressed with the transporter driver, non stop trip and still working at 11:00pm.

Now I have to make a start on polishing/repairing the paintwork (darned water spots on black!), might have to invest in a power polisher. Still too hot to work on paint today, so I might have to go down the local bar and think about it.

Have a good’un everyone.

Just a thought...

Have you tried looking under the hood with the engine running... when it is dark (garage/night)?

In case some of the plug wires (or anything else) are still damp and shorting/arcing!

I agree with that quote.

You have to have ultimate confidence in your own ability in using a knife. To be effective you generally need to be in contact range at which point there is always a chance that someone is better skilled and can take it away/use it against you.

Am I missing some point here (no pun), is the US (or the world) in such a sh.t state???

I'll go with 'made up' CentralCoaster and also agree it sounds reasonable. I think somewhere in the other forum threads there was mention of opening the valves ocassionally to let fresh water flow.

I can kinda see that the heater core, being that it is in the cabin, could create some unwanted heat (like a radiator in a lounge, I guess), but after what has been said... I'm gonna leave any thoughts of installing valves.

A 'quality' (with bearings) Balisong will keep you amused for hours Don.

Just tape the sharp side of the blade or buy a box of band-aids.

Good Luck.

I haven't abandonded that idea, in fact it is next on my list, but your probably all gonna call me crazy because I'm thinking of a !!!'method'!!! to do it.

It goes like this...

1. wait till the wife is out shopping (in one of her mates cars).

2. get her Jeep Wrangler parked next to the vette.

3. connect a couple of lengths of hose (I've got a few yards of heater roll hose) from the Jeep engine to the vette heater core.

4. pour the sealer in the Jeep's rad so that it circulates and pressurises in the vettes heater core.
5. run like hell if the wife comes home before I'm finished.

The reasoning (or not) behind this, is Pedro (a local bubba dealer) has suggested a sealer (can't remember name right now) that is supposed to be the mutts nuts, but it cautions about fully flushing out the system after it has stopped the leak. So I'm a bit hesitant to put it straight in the vettes rad, but the old Jeep should take it.

And Bill thought they where crazy on the other forum

I came across this on 'other' forums whilst googling and searching for heater hoses.

It seems that the train of thought is to totally cut-off the flow to the heater core during summer/hot months, thus reducing cabin temps. If I followed correctly (note the 'if') there is a standard vac valve fitted, but this still allows a reduced flow and allows warmed air into the cabin.

Bill, will let you know if I come to changing that hose. I think I've seen a factory connector/adapter in it (just behind the wheel arch bend), would have been the ideal place for a reducer if it isn't already.

Thanks Bill... understood.

I've been doing some reading and it seems that some folk insert opening/closing valves into the heater lines. I might add these when I fix the core... good option?

Anyone tell me why the heater core hose runs into the bottom of the header tank?

I want to by-pass the core until I get the parts and courage to rip it down and fix a leak and was just expecting to hook the input to the output hoses together, now I've looked, I'm wondering if the route through the header tank also needs blanking off.

Any advice on the best method appreciated.

Funny, I haven't done Skyline in about 28 years.

Arrr, you guys are lucky!

I took in the Blueridge Parkway incl the Skyline years ago when riding down from NY to Key West (sorry Tommy, missed ya). Was a ride I will always remember, especially with the autumn colours of the trees. Fantastic.

Someone told me you have to pay to go on the Skyline now… is it a private road or something these days?

It's certainly a European legislation (fwiw) and it is a ticketing offense to drive with fogs on when there isn't any fog.

17-18 here.

As far as affording a car, I started working on a farm at age 11 (knew even then I wanted a Corvette). Started working in a gas station at 13.
Paid cash for my 60 Chevy - $800 out of my own pocket.
Financed my motorcycle but put 1/2 down.

Bill, 800USD was a King's ransom, my old mum sold her 3 bedroomed house in London for 760GBP, it's still standing today and I'd take a guess at it being worth around the millGBP!.

The only jobs available to kids might have been a paper round or helping with milk deliveries if you were very lucky (paid pennies and no chance of saving).

Paid 50(fifty)UKP for my first 'proper' car was an Austin A40 Cambridge and my first bike was a Triumph 3TA (can't remember how much that cost).

Where US schools and students really okay, ‘back when’? …

that surprises me a little, not because it’s the US, but more because I remember UK schools having bad problems when I was a kid… teachers being assaulted and going home in tears, some teachers left the profession. Nowadays of course access to weapons is easier, which makes it all worst.

Just curious!

All of the above is why I am recommending Bars Leak. You have little to lose and a lot to gain. Years ago I had an 88 Chevy pick em up trk, heater core sprung a leak and I put Bars Leak in and no more leak for the remaining 5 yrs I owned it. Might still be running OK for all I know.

I’m not ruling that option out 95vette, but I’m not the luckiest person when it comes to quick fixes and I don’t want to find later that I’ve bunged up the water pump or any passages. I do kinda need a reliable heater too, because although this is a fairly warm climate, I have diabetes which makes my old legs feel reeeaal cold in winter.

Still searching for options at the moment. I've read on some forums that there is an easier (or perhaps just quicker) way to get the core out, but most write-up's seem to be about the 89 year, so I don't know what applies to a 93.

With a heater core you won't necessarily see a loss of coolant. A little bit of coolant will spray a lot on the windshield. Do you have a sweet nauseating smell inside the cabin?

It was more like 'fumes' really Matt. Kinda like being in a damp fog. I could identify the smell as A-F, but it gave me a b'stard headache that I still have 20 hrs later.
