Just recently it would take me at least 3-5 times turning the key to get my car started. Everytime I turn the key, all I hear is a loud clicking noise, but the engine wouldn't start or turn over, I have to retry it many times to get my car to start. Please help me to pin point the problem.
Thank you.

Hey guys,
After installed my old opti (from 96 engine)to the engine, without install the water pump, i just hook up all the spark plug wires, air intake, and other sensors. Then attempted to start the engine...YESSSS, IT WORK! I'm so happy . So now all I have to do is put everything back together. By the way, can you guy help me to install all of the alternator support bracket back together. Picture would be nice. Thank you very much for all your help.

What is the best way to remove the crankshaft balancer to get to the opti, and can I remove the balancer hub while the engine is still in the vehicle? Thank you very much

Thank you very much guys, for all of the useful informations. I was shock to found out that the 92 engine that I purchased is not a 92, because of the different in the timing cover. Below is a picture of it. It could be the guy who sold me the engine doesn't know the history of wrecked 92 corvette, and assume his engine is a 92. Yes, my 96 timing cover does have a slot for the crank position sensor. From what I recalled, both opti are look identical. So do you guys think the problem I'm having is just a DEAD/out Alignment OPTI, or it could be something else? Please help me out guys....I decided to dig in and swap out the opti tonight when I get home from work, and post more pictures. Thank you very much for all of your helps.

HE using the 96 timing cover, with the crank sensor. HE told me that he swapped the entire front of the engine of my old 96 engine to the 92, except for the opti. Do you think should I just dig in to replace the 92 opti with the 96 to see if it work first, or do I have to take off the timing cover and replace a new timing gear set? Do I have to remove the whole engine out of my car to get to the timing cover/gear, or can I just do it while the engine is still in the car? Thank you very much

Hi Andy,
I paid a mobile mechanic to swap the engine for me...He swapped all the sensors, water pump, valve covers, oil pan, intake manifold, fly wheel, timing cover, and gear drives from my 96 to the 92 engine( however, he didn’t swap the new chain and timing gears). Instead of swapping the 96 distributor, he used the 92. After he put the engine back in the vehicle, the engine would not start. It has gas and fire and will crank ok but wouldn’t turn over and keep it running. Sometimes, there also a loud popping noise coming from the air intake. My questions are:
1. What causes engine to do this?
2. Is it a problem with bad timing, because we didn’t get a new timing chain and gears? (I also attached a picture of the crank and camp gear laying next to my 96 motor. Please tell me if it matches, because I think he may have installed a camp gear from 92 and a crank gear from 96)
3. Are there any differences between the 96 distributor and the 92 one? Can this cause the engine from not running? What is the difference between a spline-type “type I” and Pin-type “type II” distributor? How can I tell which type of distributor is correct for the motor?

I really appreciate your help to solve this problem.

Dear Bogus,
I already determined the problem that caused losing oil pressure and increase rpm.It is the spun main bearing.
Since I have limited knowledge in the mechanical field. Would you help me identifying all the parts that I'd need to replace to fix this problem? Also, can I fix the problem while from underneath the car by removing the oil pan, or should the engine be removed beforehand? Please provide as much information as you can.
Sincerely,

My vehicle is showing low oil pressure, and the symptoms are spin rod bearing, spun main bearing. Can I fix this problem from underneath the vehicle by removing the oil pan, or should I remove the engine off of the vehicle, and is it cheaper fix the problem or replace it with a different used engine which only cost me around $800? Thank you very much

I have a 96 Vette with 115k miles. I just replaced 2 lifters last week, and adjusted all of the valves. The engine ran smoothly for the first few days. Just recently, the Oil Pressure PSI is shown really low at idle, it's low enough for the check gauge light to come on. Also, the check engine light shows code P0507 "Idle Control System RPM Higher Than Expected"; however, the RPM gauge is showing 800 rpm at idle and functioning very normal. I just changed oil and filter this morning, but this didn't fix the problem. Please help me to fix this problem, is it because I adjusted the valves wrong? Thank you very much!

There is a slight pump whine/howl at idle in park/neutral. But a Actron OBDII scanner only show a code P1860 (Manufacturer Controlled Transmission), and doesn’t give me any other details in what wrong with the trans. Please tell me what is really wrong with my transmission, and how to fix it. Thank you very much!

The footwell/courtsey light on the drivers side (the one that lights up the gas pedal area) it suddently quit working. I removed the light housing and found the orange wire is hanging lose on the side. I try to plug it back in. However, it doesn't do anything, beside the footwell light the passenger side is also stop working. I noticed both bulds are still in good condition. Please show me where to find the fuse for the footwell lights or how to fix this problem. By the way, both hatch courtsey lights behind the seat are in working order.

Dear Mekanic,
I will check the fuel pressure. But not sure of what you mean by plugged "cat" is it the catalytic converter? Im truly sorry for this question, since im not the mechanic and don't know much of mechanic's terminology. If it is, what is the best way to fix the plugged cat? Thank you very much

I have a 96 Corvette automatic, with 115,000 miles. It start and reverse fine. But does not seem to accelerate at all after 20 mph, especially when I press on the gas pedal hard, but when I release the pedal and press it again then the it start picking some speed. However, the RPM is very high for that normal speed. I suspect the car doesnt changing gear. Please help me to fix this problem. Thank you very much!

Valve Lifter and Camshaft Problem

96 Vette LT1.

The engine started multi-cylinder misfired, lacking power, and has tapping noise. After a lot of self diagnostic, finally, I found out that there were two bent push rods. I removed and checked all the push rods and valve lifters, there are two bad valve lifters that stuck in the bores, which I can not remove even with a lifter removal tool that I had purchased from an auto parts store.

I appreciate any help that I could get with a few things below.

1. What is the best way to remove the bad valve lifter from the bores without removing the camshaft?
2. What caused the push rods and the valve lifters gone bad?
3. Do I have to replace the camshaft and the timing chain or can I just replace the bad lifters and push rods?
4. Can I replace the camshaft and the timing chain without removing the motor from the vehicle?
5. Are there any special tools that I need to remove the distributor?

Thank you so much.
