A rather boring honk, but it should be loud and clear.

It should work with key on or off....

I bought a new shifter boot and I'm just wondering how I remove the knob on my 6sp.

Carefully pry off the little cover with the shift pattern on it. Then your fun task will be to remove the little wedge that holds the shifter tight. You need some kind of tool to grasp it and rock back and forth until it comes out. I tried using a small vice grips and wound up destroying it. Once the wedge is out, you can just unscrew the knob. I didn't bother replacing the wedge on mine.

Ya I pryed the shift pattern dealie out and tryed pulling on the wedge with pliers. I'll go back and try vice grips. Nice to know that if I destroy the wedge it's no big deal.

It worked out for me that when the knob was tight, it was in the right position, so I didn't need it. If you need a new one, I expect they're pretty cheap.

You might try a little wd-40 or penetrating oil to see if that helps it come loose.

I had to remove the roof and stand on both seats to pull that wedge loose the first time. Don't tap it back in too hard after you're done.
