"sys" flashing in info centre

My 94 didn't get much time on the road this season. The other day I was driving it to the storage unit and "sys" was flashing occasionally to the left of the fuel gauge. I remember when I started the car thinking the battery was a bit weak but it fired up quickly and I didn't give it a second thought. While driving I scrolled through the gauges and the volts were reading okay. Of course my manual is in the car in storage so I can't look it up. So what does sys indicate?

Tossing around selling my C4 and moving up to a C5. If not for the targa top I'd not have enough room for my head in my C4. I also inch the seat forward until my knee almost touches to allow me to tilt the seat back for a bit more comfort. Am I going to find the C5 any better?

Okay, I'm going to try wrapping a plastic bag around and stuffing around it with rags. It's not greasy just really dusty and the last time it was done I think someone used armorall on it so the dust is all stuck to it.

I'd like to spray my engine bay down with some mild detergent and hose it off. I'm really paranoid of getting the opti wet. Is there some way to cover it and protect it? (94 LT1)

When I bought my 94 a couple of years ago it had 32,000 miles on it. It had been driven annually in summer and stored in winters. It had spring oil changes with Mobil 1 but other than that nothing had been touched. I replaced all the fluids and the belt and the hatch weatherstrip and it's been fine.

Thanks for the drawing that explains the difference. My original is a 94 so I guess if it looks different then it's the old style.

Okay it appears both of these fit all 93-96 LT1's. Can you tell the difference looking at them? I want to make sure I'm not paying for the newer style and getting the old style.

I thought I might pick up a water pump to keep on the shelf just in case. I figure if I have a spare my original will last forever, lol. There's two Acdelco pumps on ebay. 252-699 run cheaper. 251-554 are more expensive. Both say they fit my 94 LT1. Anyone know what the deal is with these two different numbers?

Okay I want to know exactly what you did because I'm in the same boat with my 94. I replaced the check valve and it didn't work. Where is that hvac unit located? Is it a hard fix? I HATE working under dashes but I really need to get my a/c working correctly.

I had to shim one of my rear hangers down a bit where it bolts to the frame to get the same clearance from the body. No matter how much I moved the s-pipes around I coulded get it the same. It wasn't out too much but I'm fussy so I wanted it the same. Corsa has a welded on l-bracket with no adjustment. I don't know why they didn't make the muffler hanger so it utilizes the factory l-bracket. Magnaflow does.

Yea, Will is right, twisting the resonator will do wonders for that fitment.

Also, if you need some more space, jam a thin something - my install guy used a roll of tape - between the diff and the resonator. It will force the springs to compress a bit more and draw the system down.

Bogus that's a good tip to increase clearance. I loosened the clamps and jammed a 5/8" piece of wood between the pipes and the rearend and it stayed down after things were tightened up.

Now that I'm done I'll add a tip that someone else mentioned. Before you tighten up the clamps jam a piece of wood or something in between the pipes and the rearend where clearance is tight. 1/2 to 3/4" thickness will do. After you tighten everything pull it out and the pipe will stay down more.

I finally got through on the 800 number and talked to the C4 specialist who said not to worry.
Now my only problem is my outlets are nice and level but one is slightly lower than the other. Couldn't get them the same no matter how I jiggered it around. Tomorrow I'll put a spacer between the frame and the hanger to bring one side down 1/4 to 3/8" so it's the same as the other side.

I was planning to do the install on the weekend so I set out this morning to get stuff ready, jack up the car and spay on some bolt remover. Things went so well I've got it all installed but not tightened yet. Check out the picture. I have little or no clearance under the rearend. Do I have the centre muffler on upside down? I followed the picture in the instructions.

I bought an x pipe with the intention of getting more sound out of my stock exhaust. If you remove the resonator and replace it with this x pipe it will add a bit of rumble to the exhaust but not too much. I ended up buying a Corsa system instead.
I have it on ebay. item # 1905 2178 8476

I'll just update this for my own tint removal experience. I used a hair dryer to warm my tint and remove it. The tint was coming off so good I got a little gung ho and tore it all off without warming it enough. I guess ideally if you warm it to the right temp the glue will come off with the tint as you remove it. Most of my glue was left on the glass. A pro told me to use ammonia. The ammonia worked pretty well, not instant but if you keep it wet with ammonia and use some elbow grease it comes off pretty well.

I should add I think Windex has ammonia but straight ammonia is stronger.

I did the fix for the control unit a while ago and all the buttons work perfect now. I'm not overly concerned about fixing the problem at this point. The a/c and heat work fine. It just bugs me when something doesn't work right and I've got everything else working perfect on the car.

Picked up the new valve. Doing the sucking/blowing thing it functions properly compared to the old one but when I installed it I still only get air blowing out defrost and floor together no matter where I set it. Darn.

I tried with the valve off again, attempting to seat the check valve internals. No matter waht I do I can blow through the valve. The local parts store didn't have one in stock but the guy knew just what I was talking about and showed me one on the computer. They'll get it overnight. ($11.00cdn). My cruise works. I'll post when I try the new one.

Okay I pulled that check valve off and it seems to be okay. It's in good shape. I can blow in all the ports and it comes out the others. Or is it not supposed to do that? I put it back on. Still coming out the defrost but I noticed it also comes out the floor at the same time no matter where I set the buttons. Could the problem be something else?

Nobodys mentioned shorty headers as an option to get better sound out of my exhaust. Shorties would bolt right up to my stock exhaust wouldn't they? Any idea how they would sound with stock exhaust? Any disadvantage to shorties?

Bogus, the stock exhaust is too quiet - not befitting for the look and power of the vehicle. The Corsa Sport sounded okay but a bit too loud for my liking. Looking for something inbetween. The car is just a fair weather cruiser for my wife and I (love to tromp it once in a while too). Too bad Corsa doesn't make the Touring edition for the LT1.
I've heard replacing the resonator with an x-pipe does add sound but very little. I've also heard long tubes headers, x-pipe and stock LT1 mufflers sound very nice and not as loud as the Corsa Sport and keeping the LT1 mufflers means having no drone. This may be the way to go but it seems like a lot of $ to spend just to get a nicer sound though. I plan to do something but I've got to figure out what.

My goal is to get a bit more sound out of my LT1's exhaust but not too much. I heard a set of Corsa cat back(Sports)on an LT1 and was surprised that it's louder than I had hoped for. I bought an x-pipe and haven't installed it yet but from what I understand the x-pipe adds only a small amount of volume. I'm searching for an inbetween. Wondering about x-pipe with high flow cats and stock LT1 mufflers? Do high flow cats add volume??

The brackets I used were fairly sturdy. I filed the top smooth and put a few pieces of duct tape on the top so it wouldn't cut into the panel. Best fix for this problem I've seen so far though.

Bill, as it says just 84-90. Also I'm not sure why anyone would want the "correct original sound and quietness" with no drone. Most people want a nicer (louder) sound with no drone.

Well apparently the picture in the instructions that I found and the part numbers are not accurate. I contacted Dynomax. The VT is not available in a C4 specific configuration. It only comes as a unviversal muffler. In the picture that shows a cutaway of the muffler it shows the muffler is a non-baffled, straight through perforated pipe with sound insulation and that's only the front 1/2 of the muffler. The back 1/2 houses the flapper in a straight pipe. I suspect that under acceleration when the flapper is open it's not a very nice sounding muffler.

Wrote down my steps after I did it for others to save for the future:

- use a long skinny screwdriver and a piece of coat hanger wire bent in a short L to remove the plug. The bent coat hanger wire is to push the tab up on the plug (my tab was facing upward) while you pry off the plug with the screwdriver.

- use a 7/8" deep offset box end wrench to remove the switch. It's the only wrench that will work so don't even try anything else.

- use both hands, fingers on either side of the slave cylinder to start the new switch. (Cursing will aid this step). Tighten with your fingers until they start to cramp then use the box end wrench.

- use the same two handed method to reinstall the plug.

Has anyone seen these new Dynomax mufflers they advertise as drone free? Looks like they have a spring loaded flapper inside that opens up under acceleration and closes during cruise for no drone. It shows a cat back # 19476 for LT1 and the mufflers are 17690 and 17689. No good pictures but the pic in the instructions look like LT1 style tips and I assume it's not polished s/s.

Well I couldn't find the dynatex stuff locally so I used some Permatex stuff I had on hand. I took a few days and did the top section in sections, taping it until dry. Started at the top center. After that dried I did the rest down to the corners and taped it overnight. I was able to get it on without cutting it shorter. At least I don't have to worry if it shrinks. I didn't glue any of the lower portion but if it starts coming off I can do that later. It appears to be a good quality piece except for the u-shaped welting not having enough holding power. I coated it all with some Sil-glide spark plug boot lubricant.

I just put Magnaflows in place of my stock LT1 mufflers but I'm switching it all back. Love the sound of the Magnaflows even though it's a bit louder than what I expected. We're planning some trips and the wife can't stand the drone on the highway (and to be honest it bothers me too). I'm wondering what the car would sound like if I remove the resonator and replaced it with an X pipe? Not as loud as the Magnaflows? Much louder than stock? Any drone?
