I cannot take credit for this as I saw it somewhere else.
Just checked this off my list of things to fix on the 91. This was much easier than getting the hardware right on the headlight gear fix of last week. 10 minutes tops. Tools needed: 10mm socket, ratchet drive and extension, thin nose vise grips. purchase a pack of brass (so they won't rust in the future) 1" X 1/2" corner brackets. Locate the most rearward window felt, clamp the felt with the vise grips and remove the 10mm bolt from the felt bracket. Reinstall the bolt and your corner bracket: Here it is installed: Lift the inner door panel up over the bracket: It's done: Make sure the window still goes up and down ok. On the driver's side I had to bend the bracket upward a bit as the door panel popped off when I closed the door. Pour yourself an icy cold one! |

I did this fix several years ago and if you use your car frequently the L brackets will do two things... they will begin to bend and allow the panel to slip off again and they will also chafe the panel and allow it to slip off. It will indeed work for a while, but in my opinion this is not a permanent fix.

Maybe a better metal bracket would help. They do bend easily. Titanium sounds good ;) Compared to the price of a new panel, I will replace mine when they bend, as mine have been in for a couple years/ |

The brackets I used were fairly sturdy. I filed the top smooth and put a few pieces of duct tape on the top so it wouldn't cut into the panel. Best fix for this problem I've seen so far though. |
