Any good tips on installations?

I installed a Sirius receiver in mine last year. I was going to mount the antenna under the rear deck fiberglass but decided to keep it on top the halo. I ran the wires under the carpet and then under the side kick plate area, and then up behind the A-pillar cover where the receiver is mounted with the suction cup mount low and close to the dash. It is out of the way but visible and easily accessed.

I also used a Sirius adapter that hard wires the unit into my Bose radio antenna. similar to an RF converter but no radio waves to worry about and it sounds awesome. I'm not sure if XM has the same thing but they probably do. Is your unit part of a head unit or is it a separate receiver like mine?

are you going with a dedicated receiver module or with a portable unit? I have found that the dedicated receivers sound better.

I just installed one of those in my buddys car. Really easy, your bigest concern here is how to run the wires. Other than that just follow the directions

Wires should not be too hard, just wondering about a clean and accessable way to mount it

no clue... I don't have any experience installing these...

I guess it's gonna have to hang somewhere... If it was me, I would sit it in the console... versus drilling into the sides of the console.

Then again, you can't see the display.

This is why I went with the integrated solution with Sirius.

Hmmm, never thought of where to mount one in the vette. There are a few ways to go about it. You could mount it on the top of the dash or to the right of the radio but that would require a special mounting kit.

In all honesty, if you are going for a Sirius unit, get one of the sportser models. The best feature they have is the buffer so you can pause and rewind.

I will second the notion of getting a dedicated headunit, as FM reception sucks. They sounds is lower compared to a regular radio station and static interference pops up to often.

Also, do give a try with mounting the antennae inside the bumper and see how you do reception wise. Makes for a much cleaner install.

As I stated in my earlier post = Sirius has a special adapter that hard-wires the reciever into the antenna lead of the car's reciever. This makes for a perfect reception. I'm sure XM must have something similiar.

I routed all my wires up the A-pillar under the moulding. When the three wires exited the moulding I used some spiral covering to consolidate the wires. I also made this as short as possible to make it less noticble. The unit is mounted to the inside glass using the supplied windshield mount and in the location I have choosen, looks good if you don't go the integrated route.

My Toyota Matrix has a high dollar DVD/Nav/Satelite system in it with an integrated Sirius radio. It does NOT get as good reception as my Corvette and has dropouts more often than I like.

Where did you mount the satellite antenna?

I know the pic is big but rather than resize it I left it to make it easier to see the antenna mounted in the Vette.

I have 4 XM's. 1 is in the big truck with an exterior mirror mount for big trucks but the other 3 are in my cars. All the cars have the antenna mounted on the dash as in the pic with no reception problems.

Just use a small piece of velcro and your good to go.
