So I hooked up Datamasters to the Vette last night and used one of the free tunes and it gave a whole bunch of data (does anyone know if you have to purchase the program to be able to record data? I couldn't seem to get it to log any data)

Anyway, one thing I noticed was that when I floored the pedal, it was only showing up as 72-75% throttle and that if I basically stood on it, I could get it to go to 82%ish. So am I not really going WOT and just need to make an adjustment somewhere or would the people who built my car have done that for a reason? (Cammed, stroked, lots of other stuff, ect) Like getting too much fuel for the tune or something?

hm... the throttle cable could be out of wack... or the TPS is worn.

I need to get my 92 helm out to help you with that other code, so I will get it out to check these numbers.

Thanks a lot, from what I've seen from that AllData stuff my friend got for me, it's basically a lot of checking voltages at certain points...problem is, it doesn't tell you where those points are! lol

I'm hoping it's just a little out of wack and I still have another few horses that I haven't been using this whole time.

with these bugs, you need to invest in the Helm Manual. It's about $120.00, and will save you a ton.

Yeah, I plan on doing that...as soon as I can make back the money I spent on books this semester

The trial version records.

Probably need to adjust the TPS. Aftermarket TB?

Not sure actually. Might be aftermarket, anyway to tell for sure by looking at it?

So you have confirmed that the throttle is actually hitting the WFO stop?

Its just the TPS that is giving a less than 100% signal?

I don't think the Lt1 TPS is adjustable. I believe the PCM learns what is WOT. Could be wrong though.

From 96 FSM.

"If the TPS is replaced, the Electronic Brake Traction Control Module (EBTCM) must learn the TP sensor idle position voltage with the new component installed."

AT WOT, the output voltage should be above 4 volts.

There is an adjuster in the throttle cable that could need attention if the TB is not opening all the way. I had to adjust mine when I put on a 52 MM TB.

It isn't intended by GM to be adjusted.

Which isn't the same as it isn't adjustable.

'Cause, after all, it isn't intended by GM to be used on an aftermarket TB, either...

As the rest of you have said, he does need to make sure he has an actual TPS issue rather than a mat under the pedal or sticking cable or other mechanical issue before going that route.

Big plate that says "foo brand throttle body"?

Or take off the inlet and see if it has a cast-in air foil. Most if not all of the aftermarket TB have that.

I was referring to the L98 TPS, which is adjustable.

I guess you could "adjust" the LT1 with a big enough hammer.

The after market TB, however, was meant to be used with the GM TPS, and it fit quite well. The minor adjustment of the cable was due to slight differences in the linkage.

Wasn't referring to your TB install, but the many other people who have had to adjust the TPS when using an aftermarket TB. No hammer required, but a drill is. It's a well-documented mod on LT1 engine forums.

Guess I was lucky, Mine ran fine without any adjustments. The OP still hasn't answered the question as to whether or not the TB blades are opening fully.

That's because the OP had work all day

I'll have a chance to look at it tomorrow when I have a helping hand so I can look while someone pushes the pedal for me.

You shouldnt need a helping hand to see that!! I can see if mine reaches WOT when i press the pedal to the floor, and that is from the right hand side of the car!!

Im sure you did this allready, but with the key to ON and the engine not running, Datamaster connected and running, you should be able to see what voltage and percentage youre getting then.

Yeah, I'll try that tomorrow too. I know it gives you the percentage (that's why I started this lol), i'm pretty sure it shows voltage too so I'll make sure to pay attention to it this time.

I agree - even my (very dumb) 1985 computer gives me this ...

Okay, just hooked the laptop back up to it (actually sitting in my car right now on wireless lol) and here are my observations:

Pedal pressed down gives 75%, 3.08 volts.

Pedal is not being stopped by the floor or floormat, it's just at the end of it's travel

Manually turning the throttle will give a 100%, 4.00 volt reading.

I *looks* like the throttle cable maybe be a little bit too long, thus not pulling the throttle to wide open.

Any ideas? Where would the best place to adjust the length of cable be if possible? Thanks.

Hey, If your voltage is low, your cable needs to be lenghtened. Simple procedure, as there is a cable and a hard to push button going to the throttle, and when you push that plastic inline button the cable will go out. Adjust it till you go to WOT.
If you have an aftermarket throttle, yo may need to look further into how people do theres to get proper WOT. I have used BBK, TPIS, and AS&M. Everyone is different.

My 96 with ASR has an adjuster in the cable. Does yours have ASR?

Do you have an FSM?

The cable that goes directly from the throttle body to the ASR module, seen here as the second cable away from the manifold coming out of the ASR, is the one you want to adjust. You push that flat buttoned piece in, very stiff buton, and adjust the cable loose or tight. Then have someone floor it and see if it opens all the way, and closes. Mine is a 93, so that other cable going down to the transmission wont be on yours, or 6 -speeds as 94 and newer had electronic transmissions.

Well, hey, update for you guys. Turns out, it was just the little piece that hold the throttle cable right before the actual throttle was bent down (my dad said someone might have just leaned on it at one point) so we bent it back and I'm back to WOT :thumbleft:

Glad you fixed it! Just for grins, I hooked up my AutoTap and found my Throttle was only opening 96%. An adjustment at the adjuster soon had it at 100%

I really like the family nature of this forum!
