I'm going to double check my timing tonight since the epedemic intake gasket change. lol

I have removed the EGR valve and all the components that go with it. I have not yet gotten a chip to fix that. Other things keep falling apart on my Vette.

Anyway, I will double check the FSM tonight but I searched and found that I have to unplug the EST wire and that the timing should be a 6* BTDC. Should I do anything different to help compensate for the EGR removal?

I did line up the slash on the back of the distributor that the assembler put on there but I want to double check it just to be safe.

Thanks in advance!

Jeff

The EGR and distributor aren't really related, but the fact that you removed/reinstalled your dizzy is more of the issue. Did you reset the timing when after you dropped it? Even a small amount off from where it should be will make a difference. Shoot for 6-8* btdc and you will be all set. Also, recheck the timing after you tighten down the dizzy clamp because it may have moved slightly.

Also, after you're satisfied with the timing, be sure to shut down the engine, re-connect the by-pass wire and disconnect the battery for 30 seconds or so. That'll clear the code that gets set when the ECM detected the engine running with the EST by-pass disconnected.

Unlike other Forums, this one only accepts avatar photos that are very small. I tried several times to post one of the photos I have saved on my computer but each time it was rejected.

So I went on-line and found a program that allows me to reduced the size of photos, but since I didn't buy it the program automatically puts that banner across the face of the photo. Hang on and I'll show you how it was suppose to look:
WOW! The site won't even let me post the photo here. It keep cutting of the first [IMG] part and putting it on a different line. What's up with that!??

I'll try it a different way, hang on.

Thanks for asking. Maybe now 'guru' will do mods to let us post largers pics, LOL

When the one on the 86 I had did leaked it was a seal. I just replaced the whole thing. Pricey though.
